Team Lead: Events Operations — Sorrento Events

Sorrento Events is a floral, décor, and event management company specialising in weddings, corporate events, and celebrations. We are looking for a Team Lead to assist in managing our events operations leads while also taking the lead on-site at event setups and breakdowns.
This is a dual role — you lead the team and you work the events. You set the standard for execution, stock care, communication, and accountability. When things run smoothly on site, it's because of you. When they don't, you're the first person to step in and fix it.
We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on environment and takes pride in getting the details right — from the first item off the truck to the last item back in the warehouse.

Team Leadership Responsibilities

• Manage, supervise, and mentor a team of event leads and assistants
• Ensure all team members are briefed, prepared, and equipped before departing for any event
• Set and enforce the standard for on-site execution, stock handling, reporting, and communication
• Coordinate team scheduling across multiple concurrent events
• Conduct hands-on training for new leads and assistants
• Monitor team performance and flag issues to the Operations Manager
• Act as the first point of escalation for on-site problems before they reach management
• Hold your team to procedure — no shortcuts, no undocumented actions

On-Site & Operational Responsibilities

• Lead event setups and breakdowns on-site, ensuring every detail matches the confirmed event plan
• Supervise assistants during setup and strike — maintain safe, efficient work practices
• Assist with loading, dispatching, and checking vehicles before departure
• Collect and return décor and furniture from suppliers when required
• Plan efficient routes for deliveries, collections, and returns
• Complete all event paperwork on-site — including stock returns, damages, and missing items
• Take event and damage photos and share through internal channels
• Hand over completed paperwork to the stock team immediately on return
• Update task progress on internal platforms in real time — not after the fact
• Report daily stock movement, event feedback, and any operational issues to management
• Deliver décor and floral designs to customers when required
• Maintain the cleanliness and running condition of company vehicles

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years' experience in events operations, logistics, or a similar hands-on role — events, rental, or hospitality industry strongly preferred
• Proven experience supervising or managing a small team in a fast-paced environment (preferred)
• Physically fit — this role involves loading, transporting, setting up, and breaking down event stock and décor
• Exceptional attention to detail — every item tracked, every instruction followed, every document completed
• Strong, clear communication — able to brief teams, report to management, and coordinate across departments
• Competent in Microsoft Office and corporate communication platforms
• Comfortable using a smartphone and productivity apps for task updates, photos, and real-time reporting
• Valid driver's licence, PDP (preferred), and a clean driving record with no traffic violations
• Own vehicle for daily transportation to and from work
• Willing to work flexible hours including after-hours, weekends, midnight shifts, and early mornings
• Hard working, motivated, punctual, and energetic
• Leads by example — sets the pace, doesn't just delegate

Pay: From R15 000,00 per month
