MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering/ safety/ environmental
• Leadership Development qualification
• Mine Manager Certificate of Competency
• 10 years of senior management experience
• Safety experience relating to understanding and interpreting relevant legislation, regulations, and standards
• Experience in strategic, operational, and integrated
• Health and Safety Management Systems

Knowledge of:

• Companies Act
• King Code of Good Governance
• Mining Health and Safety Act
• Mining legislation and regulations, including the Mining Charter
• Requirements in terms of the Mine and Safety Act.
• Department of Minerals and Petroleum Resources structures and operations

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Medical Certificate of Fitness
• Computer Literacy
• Fluency in both verbal and written English is essential
• Code 8 Driver’s license

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides strategic leadership and direction in relation to mine safety at Harmony SA Operations and ensures strict and full compliance with the regulatory requirements of the Mine Health and Safety Act.
• Develops and oversees the safety strategy, policy, systems, and programmes to ensure achievement of business objectives by establishing and implementing approved medium- and long-term plans aligned to Harmony’s strategic business goals.
• Promotes a safe production environment for Harmony's mining operations and to achieve business objectives.
• Develop a safety management framework, strategy, policy, and code of practice in line with the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations that will result in a safe, productive environment.
• Guide the Executive Committee (EXCO) to anchor and achieve the Group’s safety objectives.
• Contribute towards developing and driving key safety interventions and priorities in continuation of the Thibakotsi initiatives.
• Design, coordinate, and monitor programmes to instil a safety mindset and embed the desired safety culture.
• Lead the outcomes of incident investigations, ensuring the analysis of incident statistics, identification of trends and suggested improvement is conducted.
• Provide oversight on the implementation of safety programmes and plans to ensure alignment with Harmony Group strategy objectives.
• Ensure the implementation of safety policies, standard operating procedures, controls, and measures.
• Prepare reports for EXCO and Board on the Group’s performance against set safety plans, actions and risks.
• Leads the safety team members ensuring achievement of the Harmony's vision, strategic objectives and team alignment.
• Maintain of improve relationships with the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR).
• Participate and engage in regulatory changes and influence Harmony’s posture on the proposed changes.
• Clearly articulate the Harmony Values and Leadership Philosophy through visible leadership that supports and drives a high-performance culture and employee engagement.
