We’re seeking passionate and experienced Horse Grooms to join our dynamic and dedicated Quarantine Team based at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse. In this vital role, you’ll help ensure horses are cared for in a clean, safe, and healthy environment as they prepare for international travel. Your responsibilities will include, grooming and handling horses with care and professionalism. You will assist with general stable duties, manual tasks, and supporting the team in ensuring the wellbeing of all quarantined horses. You’ll report directly to Quarantine Management and be part of a dynamic team committed to excellence in Equine Care.

Why Cape Racing Equine

All horses exported from Southern Africa must pass through this internationally accredited Quarantine Station. We provide expert care for a wide range of horses-from elite racehorses competing globally and Olympic- level competition horses, to endurance horses covering up to 120km in a race, and even beloved pet ponies accompanying their owners abroad. This is a unique opportunity as a horse groom; you’ll play a vital role in maintaining a high standard of care for the horses at the start of their journey.

What You’ll Do

Grooming horses: Daily brushing of coats, manes, and tails, picking out hooves and hosing down horses.

Cleaning equipment: Washing and sanitising stables, grooming kits, halters, buckets, and other tools each time a shipment leaves, and preparing for the next intake.

Exercising horses: Hand-walking horses until they are trained to the walker; some may require hand walking throughout their stay.

Horse care: Mucking out stables twice daily, this includes getting rid of old Oathay and Lucerne, cleaning out the horse manure and wet bedding with urine, topping up on Lucerne and Oathay and bedding, when necessary. Filling water buckets three times daily and feeding horses twice a day.

General cleanliness: Keeping the Quarantine area neat, tidy and hygienic at all times.

Additional duties: Assisting with any other tasks as required by Quarantine Management.

What You’ll Need

· Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks (required).

· A good performance, attendance and timekeeping record (required).

What We’re Looking For

· One (1) to two (2) years of experience as a Horse Groom (required).

· Calm, confident, and professional around all types of horses.

· Understanding of horse behaviour and temperament.

· Good literacy and communication skills in English.

· Customer care experience and sober habits.

· Energetic and physically fit, able to follow instructions, while also showing initiative and working proactively without constant supervision.

· Able to work both independently and as part of a team.

· Detail-oriented with a keen eye for cleanliness and horse wellbeing.

· Reliable, honest, and punctual.

· Own transport to and from work.

· Ability to work weekends, public holidays and irregular hours as required.

· A clear criminal record.
