Job description
Retail Merchandiser - Ou Meul Bakkery
We’re looking for a skilled, hands-on merchandiser whose main job is being in our stores, making them look and sell their best. This is a role for someone who knows merchandising as a craft — how to build a display that stops people, how to lay out a range so it sells, how to keep a store looking sharp week in and week out — and who wants to spend their days doing it, not managing it from a desk.
You’ll be on the road regularly, moving between stores and merchandising each one yourself. If you take pride in walking away from a store knowing it looks better and sells more because you were there, this is for you.
The core of the role
- Visiting each of our stores regularly and merchandising them yourself — building and refreshing displays, setting out the range, and making sure every store meets our standard
- Being genuinely skilled and qualified in merchandising — this is your craft, and you know what good looks like on the floor
- Setting and holding the merchandising standard across all our stores, so the brand shows up the same way everywhere
- Spending real time on the road — this is a get-in-the-car, get-into-the-stores role, not an office one
What you’ll need
- Proven, hands-on merchandising experience and a qualification or track record that shows you know the craft
- A strong eye for display, layout and presentation, ideally in food, bakery, café or FMCG retail
- A valid driver’s licence and genuine willingness to be on the road most of the week
- Physical, practical energy - you’ll be on your feet, setting up displays and moving stock
- Someone who works independently and takes ownership of how each store looks
Also part of the role (secondary to the merchandising itself)
- Owning the relationships with our stores
- Working out costings and helping price the range right
- Training store teams in upselling and merchandising so the standard holds between your visits
- Helping build and evolve the range
- Tracking how ranges and stores are selling, and presenting your findings and strategy to leadership
Why join us
You’ll own how our brand looks and sells on the floor, across every store, with the freedom to get out there and make it happen - and a real hand in the range, pricing and strategy behind it.
To apply, send your CV and a short note on your merchandising experience to [marketing@oumeul.co.za ].
