About the company
Our client is a leading South African fintech that processes instant payments for thousands of online merchants, banks and consumers. Their platform moves real money in real time, so software quality has a direct impact on customer trust and revenue. They are growing their engineering team and want a QA engineer who can own quality across their payment products.
About the role
You will join a cross-functional product team and take responsibility for test strategy, automation and release quality. The role suits someone who wants to move testing earlier in the delivery cycle, build automation that the team relies on, and challenge requirements before code is written. You will work closely with developers, product owners and business analysts.
What you'll do
- Design and maintain automated test suites for APIs, web front ends and backend services
- Build and run test plans for new features, integrations and regression cycles
- Test payment flows end to end, including bank integrations, merchant callbacks and failure scenarios
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines so every release is checked before it reaches production
- Take part in refinement sessions to clarify acceptance criteria and identify risk early
- Log, track and verify defects, and report clearly on quality and release readiness
- Contribute to performance and security testing where needed
- Improve QA processes and tooling as the team scales
What you'll bring
- 4+ years' experience in software QA, with at least 2 years in test automation
- Strong API testing experience (Postman, REST Assured or similar)
- Hands-on experience with an automation framework such as Playwright, Selenium or Cypress
- Ability to write automation code in C#, Python, JavaScript or TypeScript
- Experience working with CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins or similar)
- Solid SQL skills for test data setup and backend validation
- Experience in an Agile or Scrum team
- Clear written and verbal communication, and the confidence to push back on unclear requirements
Advantageous
- Experience in fintech, payments, banking or another regulated environment
- Performance testing experience (k6, JMeter or similar)
- Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and microservices
- ISTQB or equivalent certification
