Fabricator/Welder

The Fabricator Welder will adhere strictly to all occupational health and safety regulations and wear required PPE, read and interpret engineering drawings and set up and adjust welding equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a clean and safe work area by removing slag, offcuts, and waste materials, and ensuring gas cylinders are stored and secured properly.
• Weld components in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions to required quality standards and dimensional tolerances.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to determine joint preparation, filler material, and welding sequence.
• Ensure all fabrication work meets project specifications, welding codes, and quality standards before sign-off and handover.
• Inspect all welds visually for defects including porosity, undercut, overlap, incomplete fusion, and cracks, and grind out and repair any defective welds.
• Store all welding consumables, tools, and equipment properly at the end of each shift to maintain order and prevent loss or damage.
• Set up and adjust welding equipment including amperage, voltage, gas flow, and wire feed speed for different materials and joint configurations.
• Be comfortable working on customer sites and in company workshop.

Requirements

• A valid welder qualification certificate for the relevant process and material thickness in accordance with ISO 9606 or ASME IX will be an advantage.
• Physical fitness to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in outdoor conditions on construction sites.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds that meet inspection standards.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and fabrication specifications accurately.
• A valid driver's licence is required for roles requiring travel to multiple sites.
• A recognised trade certificate or welder qualification issued by a relevant SETA or approved training authority is preferred.
• Proficiency in one or more welding processes including ARC or CO2 welding on mild steel and stainless steel.
• Own tools and a smart phone is required.

Qualifications
National Certificate in Welding Engineering will be an advantage

Pay: R12 000,00 - R18 000,00 per month
