Lacey’s is seeking a Factory Shop Manager to join their dynamic team in the JHB branch. The Factory Shop Manager is responsible for the effective day-to-day management of the factory shop, ensuring that sales, stock control, customer service, staff supervision, cash handling, merchandising, housekeeping and compliance standards are consistently maintained. The role requires a hands-on manager who can balance operational control with a strong customer focus and who can protect company assets while driving sales performance.
Duties include but not limited to:
- Manage the daily opening, closing and general operation of the factory shop.
- Ensure that the shop is clean, organised, well-presented and ready for trade at all times.
- Monitor daily sales activity and ensure that operational procedures are followed consistently.
- Implement company policies, procedures and standards within the factory shop environment.
- Identify operational problems and escalate matters requiring management attention.
- Drive sales through active customer engagement, product knowledge and effective shop-floor management.
- Ensure that customers receive professional, efficient and courteous service at all times.
- Handle customer queries, complaints and returns in line with company policy.
- Promote products and specials clearly and accurately.
- Monitor customer buying trends and provide feedback to management where relevant.
- Maintain accurate stock control processes, including receiving, checking, pricing, displaying and recording stock.
- Ensure stock is correctly labelled, priced and merchandised.
- Conduct regular stock counts and assist with formal stock takes as required.
- Monitor slow-moving, damaged, expired or obsolete stock and report concerns to management.
- Prevent stock losses through effective controls, supervision and adherence to company procedures.
- Oversee all cash, card and account transaction processes in line with company requirements.
- Ensure accurate cash-ups, reconciliations, banking preparation and supporting documentation.
- Investigate and report cash variances, pricing errors or transaction discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain accurate records relating to sales, stock, returns, damages and shop administration.
- Ensure confidential and financial information is handled responsibly and securely.
- Supervise factory shop staff and allocate duties to ensure efficient daily operations.
- Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, conduct, productivity and customer service standards.
- Provide guidance, coaching and on-the-job training to staff where required.
- Address minor performance or conduct concerns promptly and escalate formal matters to management or HR.
- Promote teamwork, accountability and a positive working environment.
- Ensure that the factory shop complies with applicable health, safety, security and housekeeping standards.
- Report hazards, incidents, accidents, maintenance issues or security concerns immediately.
- Ensure aisles, entrances, exits and customer areas remain safe, clean and unobstructed.
- Safeguard company stock, cash, equipment, records and premises.
- Support loss-prevention measures and ensure access control procedures are followed where applicable.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Good leadership, supervisory and communication skills.
- Sound understanding of retail operations, stock control and cash-handling procedures.
- High level of accuracy, honesty and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure and resolve problems practically.
- Basic computer literacy and ability to work with point-of-sale, stock or accounting systems where applicable.
- Ability to enforce company rules and procedures fairly and consistently.
Minimum Requirements
- Previous retail, factory shop, wholesale, stock control or supervisory experience is preferred.
- Experience in cash handling, stock control and customer-facing sales will be advantageous.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours where required, including peak trading periods, stock takes or special promotions.
- Reliable, trustworthy and able to take accountability for shop operations.
