Job Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced FGD Unitised & FGD Auxiliaries Mechanical Quality Inspector to support maintenance, outage, commissioning, and quality assurance activities on Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) systems and associated auxiliary plant. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that all maintenance and inspection work complies with engineering specifications, applicable standards, project quality requirements, and statutory regulations.

This position requires a seasoned mechanical quality professional with extensive experience in power station maintenance, rotating equipment, chemical and water treatment plants, reliability engineering, and engineering quality control.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must possess:

  • SAIW Welding and Fabrication Inspector Level II.
  • N6 Diploma and Trade Test Certificate or National Diploma in Engineering.
  • Diploma or Certificate in Total Quality Management.
  • Certificate in OHSE, SAMTRAC, NOSA, NEBOSH, or an equivalent health and safety qualification.

Minimum Experience

Applicants must demonstrate:

  • A minimum of 15 years' post-apprenticeship experience.
  • At least 10 years' supervisory experience in plant maintenance.
  • A minimum of 10 years' engineering quality control experience.
  • At least 10 years' power station maintenance experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years' experience in chemical and water treatment plants.
  • Proven commissioning and decommissioning experience.

Technical Competencies

Applicants must have practical experience in:

  • Flue Gas Desulphurisation (FGD) systems and auxiliary plant.
  • Engineering drawing interpretation.
  • ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
  • Supplier quality audits.
  • Tender, supply chain, and procurement processes.
  • Cooling water systems for power plants.
  • Precision plant and equipment alignment using dial indicators and laser alignment systems.
  • Practical machinery vibration analysis and predictive maintenance.
  • Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM).
  • SAP PM01 and PM02 work management.
  • Engineering change management.
  • RBO/MSMW methodologies.
  • ASME standards and quality requirements.
  • Root cause analysis and failure investigations.
  • Pump, gearbox, compressor, and valve maintenance.
  • Machine shop practices, limits, and fits.
  • Boiler plant operations.
  • Demineralised water plant operations.
  • Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) unit operations.
  • Steam generator operations.
  • Fired heater operations.
  • Water reticulation plant operations.
  • Pressure Systems Regulations (PSR).
  • Corrosion protection.
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform quality inspections on FGD systems and associated mechanical plant.
  • Verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, quality procedures, and statutory requirements.
  • Inspect rotating equipment, valves, pumps, compressors, and auxiliary systems.
  • Witness equipment alignment, pressure testing, commissioning, and decommissioning activities.
  • Review quality documentation and support supplier quality audits.
  • Conduct root cause and failure investigations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Monitor work management activities through SAP PM processes.
  • Compile quality records, inspection reports, and non-conformance documentation.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and quality audits.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, project specifications, and client quality requirements.

Remuneration

A competitive remuneration package will be offered based on qualifications, specialist expertise, and demonstrated experience.
