Fibre Laser Operator – Job Description

Job Title: Fibre Laser Operator
Department: Steel / Fabrication
Reports To: Production Manager / Factory Manager

Purpose of the Position

To operate and maintain fibre laser cutting machinery safely and efficiently, producing accurate components according to approved drawings, specifications and production requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate CNC fibre laser cutting machines to cut mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and other approved materials.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, cutting plans and CNC files.
• Set up the machine, including loading materials and selecting the correct cutting parameters.
• Check material thickness, dimensions and quality before and during production.
• Monitor cutting operations and make adjustments where required.
• Conduct quality inspections to ensure components meet required specifications.
• Identify and report machine faults, cutting defects or material problems.
• Perform routine cleaning, lubrication and basic machine maintenance.
• Safely handle and store sheet-metal materials and finished components.
• Maintain accurate production records and report completed quantities.
• Minimise material wastage and optimise cutting layouts where possible.
• Follow all company health and safety procedures, including PPE and machine-safety requirements.
• Keep the work area clean, organised and free from hazards.
• Work closely with fabricators, welders, press-brake operators and production staff to meet deadlines

Requirements

• Previous experience operating a fibre laser cutting machine.
• Experience in a steel, fabrication, manufacturing, signage or shopfitting environment advantageous.
• Ability to read technical drawings.
• Basic understanding of CNC operation and cutting parameters.
• Good knowledge of different metals and material thicknesses.
• Ability to use measuring equipment such as vernier callipers and tape measures.
• Good attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work under production deadlines.
• Basic computer skills.
• Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements.

Pay: R6 207,49 - R18 901,46 per month
