Field Guide Clanwilliam, Western Cape Lodge Introduction A luxury Field Guide opportunity is available at a high-end wilderness reserve and wellness retreat in the Western Cape , within the hospitality and luxury lodge industry. This role is ideal for a professional Guide with strong knowledge of Western Cape fauna, flora and cultural interpretation, who can deliver memorable guest experiences in a remote wilderness environment. The successful Field Guide will join the guiding department and will be responsible for safe, engaging and environmentally responsible guest activities across the reserve.

Job Requirements

• Valid driver’s license and PDP.
• Valid First Aid Certificate.
• DEAT registration in the Western Cape.
• FGASA Level 1 Field Guide qualification.
• Preferably 2 years’ previous experience as a Field Guide.
• Strong knowledge of Western Cape fauna and flora.
• Knowledge of Bushman paintings will be advantageous.
• Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.
• Working knowledge of ecology, ethno-botany, archaeology, geology, night sky, climate and first aid.
• Basic ability to identify major tracks and signs.
• Ability to safely operate a canoe, re-curve bow and arrow, mountain bike, telescope, fly-fishing equipment and 4×4 vehicle.
• Basic 4×4 maintenance skills.
• A good knowledge of guiding in a luxury lodge environment.
• Responsible for guest safety, comfort and enjoyment during all guided activities.
• Must be committed to low-impact, environmentally responsible guiding practices.

Package

• Market-related remuneration, dependent on experience.
• Free self-catering shared on-site accommodation.
• 50% Discovery Medical Aid or medical consultation.
• Provident Fund at 7.5%.
• Laundry and Wi-Fi included.
• Work cycle: 24 days on and 8 days off.
