Field Service Engineer (Utility-Scale BESS)

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to support the commissioning, operation, maintenance, and technical support of a large-scale utility Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project (100MW+) . The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring maximum plant availability, resolving technical issues, and supporting clients throughout the project lifecycle.

This role is site-based and suited to professionals with strong experience in utility-scale renewable energy, power systems, and Battery Energy Storage Systems. The specification is based on the capabilities demonstrated by top-performing field engineers in the market, including expertise in commissioning, SCADA integration, advanced fault finding, software updates, and customer support. With an opportunity to support the company on international projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Commission utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems.
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on BESS equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, communication and software faults.
• Conduct testing, commissioning and performance verification of plant equipment.
• Configure and troubleshoot SCADA and plant communication systems.
• Carry out firmware, software and hardware upgrades.
• Support inverter, battery, BMS and PCS commissioning activities.
• Investigate root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
• Complete detailed technical service reports and maintenance documentation.
• Deliver technical training to customers and site personnel.
• Provide both on-site and remote technical support.
• Liaise with engineering, product support and project teams to resolve complex technical issues.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with safety procedures and quality standards.
• Participate in emergency call-outs and planned maintenance activities as required.

Minimum Requirements

• National Diploma, BTech or Degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Trade Test (Electrician) will also be considered where accompanied by strong BESS experience.
• Minimum 5 years' experience within renewable energy, electrical infrastructure or utility-scale power projects.
• Minimum 3 years' hands-on experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems.
• Experience commissioning utility-scale BESS projects (100MW+ preferred).
• Strong knowledge of high-voltage and low-voltage electrical systems.
• Experience with SCADA integration and communication networks.
• Proven experience with fault finding on inverters, batteries, BMS, PCS and auxiliary systems.
• Experience performing software and firmware updates.
• Valid driver's licence.
• Willingness to travel extensively and work on remote project sites.
