The Finance and Commercial Manager drive profitable growth for DFA wholesale products through pricing discipline, investment governance, and revenue assurance. Lead commercial finance partnering with Sales, Product, Network Planning, Billing, and Operations.
As a DFA – Finance and Commercial Manager you will be empowered to deliver the following:
Commercial leadership
- Own the annual plan and LRP for revenue, gross margin, opex, and capex by product and region.
- Chair a weekly deal desk. Validate pricing logic, SLA impacts, escalations, and discount approvals.
- Maintain the pricing catalog with floors and guardrails. Ensure CPI linkage and indexation terms.
- Define minimum viable deal metrics. EBITDA per route. Payback. NPV. Cash yield.
- Model customer lifetime value and retention economics. Align to churn and win-back tactics.
- Run win-loss analysis and maintain a clean funnel view with Sales.
Investment and portfolio
- Lead build vs lease vs light-up business cases with transparent assumptions and scenarios.
- Operate stage-gates. Concept. Feasibility. Business case. Execution. Close-out with post-investment review.
- Track route profitability and asset turns. Prioritise densification and upgrades tied to demand heatmaps.
- Publish a quarterly portfolio view that ranks projects by IRR, NPV, payback, and strategic fit.
Revenue assurance and working capital
- Map and govern the quote to cash process. Quote. Order. Provision. Billing. Collection.
- Design controls to prevent leakage. Correct service codes. Mediation checks. Usage reconciliation.
- Own indexation cycles and contract renewals. Deliver timely increases per contract terms.
- Partner with Billing and AR to reduce DSO. Set credit limits. Approve credit notes under policy.
- Report root causes of credit notes and disputes. Fix the source through process and system changes.
Analytics and systems
- Build a single source of truth for product and customer P&L with unit cost drivers and margin bridges.
- Maintain model standards. Version control. Assumption library. Scenario toggles.
- Define and publish dashboards. Pipeline health. Price realisation. Margin bridge. Churn. SLA penalties.
- Lead data quality sprints with owners across ERP, billing, CRM, and network inventory systems.
Risk, legal, and regulatory
- Align commercial constructs with IFRS 15. Variable consideration. Contract assets. Onerous terms.
- Assess lease vs service under IFRS 16 for IRUs and similar constructs.
- Partner with Legal on standard terms. SLAs, MTTR, service credits, liability caps, and step-in rights.
- Manage Competition Act pricing conduct risks and exclusivity concerns. Maintain audit trails.
- Ensure POPIA compliance for customer and supplier data across BI models and reports.
People leadership and ways of working
- Lead analysts with clear rituals. Weekly pipeline. Monthly product P&L. Quarterly strategy review.
- Coach pricing and modeling skills. Run peer reviews and maintain a knowledge base.
- Set documentation standards. Templates for deals, models, and post-investment reviews stored centrally
What makes YOU our ideal candidate:
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics. CA(SA), CIMA, or CFA preferred.
- Six to ten years in telecom, wholesale infrastructure, or utilities in commercial finance roles.
- Advanced financial modeling with audit-ready standards and sensitivity analysis.
- Deep knowledge of wholesale fibre products and unit economics.
- Deal desk or commercial governance experience with delivered outcomes.
- ERP and billing exposure such as SAP or Oracle and telecom billing platforms.
- Hands-on with BI. Power BI or equivalent. SQL familiarity preferred.
- Clear communicator with executive presence. Strong stakeholder management.
- Leads teams. Coaches analysts. Sets high standards and meets deadlines.
