Job description
Most finance intern ads sound copy‑paste:
“Detail‑oriented… spreadsheets…” snooze.
Finance in e‑commerce is different. We move fast, collaborate hard, and value accuracy with personality.
This isn’t about fetching coffee. Think spreadsheets, not lattes. You’ll be in the thick of:
- Being the extra hands that keep the team sharp.
- Fixing numbers when they don’t add up.
- Linking AP, AR, and reporting.
- Supporting smooth, reliable processes.
- Experimenting with AI tools and automation to make finance faster, smarter, and more fun.
- Being part of a team that embraces new tech and turns finance into a future‑ready playground.
If you love structure, solving puzzles, and want to learn the full finance cycle, this role’s for you.
Job requirements
What you’ll own:
- Processing invoices & payments fast and flawlessly.
- Matching POs, GRNs & invoices with forensic accuracy.
- Managing queries & inboxes so it never becomes a crime scene.
- Reconciling supplier/customer accounts (you find errors others miss).
- Assisting with weekly runs & month‑end prep.
- Spotting process gaps & suggesting improvements.
- Supporting the Finance team with administrative duties as required.
- Assisting with ad hoc finance projects and reporting.
- Helping us innovate how numbers flow; less manual grind, more digital shine.
Who you are:
You’ll fit right in if you are:
- Extremely detail-driven (you see things others miss).
- Organised and systematic: colour-coded spreadsheets are your happy place.
- Energised by fast-moving environments (retail, e-com, SMME, startup vibes).
- Comfortable working with tools, platforms, dashboards.
- A clear communicator, reliable under pressure.
- Positive, eager to learn, and team‑oriented.
Tools you’ll use:
- Sage Evolution
- Excel + Google Sheets
- Google Workspace
Minimum Experience:
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Studying/completed Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, Bookkeeping, Commerce, or related
The Hard Truth: Not For Everyone:
- Zero Margin for Error: In finance, a small mistake is a real financial consequence. Payments do not wait, and vendors do not forget. You must have an almost obsessive level of accuracy.
- High-Volume Intensity: This is not a role where you can "clear the deck" and relax. The invoices keep coming. You need to be someone who finds peace in the process rather than waiting for a quiet moment that never arrives.
- Problem Solving on the Fly: You will often deal with incomplete data or conflicting records. You have to be comfortable chasing people for answers and fixing discrepancies without a step-by-step manual.
No working experience? No stress. Bring curiosity, accuracy, and the guts to learn, plus the humility to grow as you go. Bright minds welcome, humble hustlers shine.
Runway is committed to transformation and redressing of past inequalities. Our employment equity goals will be taken into account in our selection process.
