Job description

POSITION: FINANCIAL ACCOUNTANT

REPORTING TO: FINANCIAL MANAGER

LOCATION: Bryanston, Eton Office Park

JOB PURPOSE :

Responsible for managing financial transactions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, and providing accurate financial reporting. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the financial health of the company.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Reporting & Analysis:

• Ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

• Conduct variance analysis and provide insights into financial performance.

General Ledger & Reconciliations:

• Maintain the general ledger and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately.

• Posts to and updates the General Ledger (GL)

• Processes and monitors all journals at month end and at request of the Finance Manager/ Head of Finance

• Assists in resolving any discrepancies raised by the Finance Manager

• Adjusts and releases provisions accordingly

• Assesses impact of proposed general ledger change

• Own the balance sheet reconciliation process across all entities.

• Investigate and resolve reconciling items timeously.

• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and supporting schedules.

• Reconcile intercompany balances and transactions.

Tax & Statutory Compliance

• Prepare VAT returns and supporting reconciliations.

• Assist with provisional tax calculations and corporate tax submissions.

• Support statutory reporting and ensure compliance with applicable legislation.

Budgeting & Forecasting:

• Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts.

• Monitor budget performance and report any variances.

• Support management with financial planning and decision-making.

Process Improvement & Internal Controls:

• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes and internal controls.

• Implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.

• Support automation and digital transformation initiatives in accounting functions.

Fixed Asset Accounting

• Reviews procurement invoices

• Compiles a Fixed Asset Register (FAR)

• Reviews any updates made to the FAR with the asset details and asset classes

• Reviews any discrepancies resolved between the FAR and the GL

• Identifies assets to be written off and writes off assets accordingly

• Accounts for depreciation and capitalisation of fixed assets

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in financial accounting or a similar role.

• ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent qualification preferred.

• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g.SAP,Sage Intacct,Sage Evo) and Microsoft Excel.

• Strong understanding of IFRS and financial compliance.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities to interpret financial data.

• High accuracy in financial reporting and reconciliation.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively with finance and cross-functional teams.

• SAGE Intacct knowledge would be advantageous

• Ability to cope well under pressure

• A track record of documented successes and achievements

• Flexibility to adapt quickly to changing business conditions and changing priorities

• Innovative and adaptable

• Highly organised and system orientated.
