Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified Financial Accountant to join our team in Blackheath. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the financial operations of a growing group of companies operating across multiple business units.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Management & Reporting

  • Manage and supervise all accounting transactions across the group.
  • Prepare and review monthly management accounts and consolidated financial reports.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations and reports for all balance sheet accounts.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Compile and review annual financial statements.
  • Assist with preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
  • Report on the company's financial health, profitability, and liquidity.,
  • Reconcile various intercompany and group loan accounts.
  • Prepare treasury reports and cashflow analyses.

2. Audit & Compliance

  • Act as the primary liaison with external auditors and coordinate the annual audit process.
  • Prepare audit files and supporting documentation.
  • Audit financial transactions and ensure accurate record keeping.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, the Companies Act, and internal financial policies.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of financial information.
  • Manage company secretarial duties and statutory compliance requirements.

3. Tax & Regulatory Compliance

  • Review and manage VAT returns, reviews and correspondence with SARS.
  • Ensure PAYE and other statutory compliance requirements are met.
  • Manage income tax and other regulatory submissions across operating jurisdictions.
  • Monitor compliance with local regulations where applicable.

4. Cashflow, Treasury & Foreign Exchange Management

  • Assist with budgeting, cashflow planning, and forecasting across multiple divisions.
  • Monitor and report on treasury activities.
  • Manage foreign exchange reporting, profit and loss calculations, and rebate requests.
  • Support multi-currency transactions and cross-border financial operations.

5. Debtor & Creditor Management

  • Conduct debtor and creditor reviews, including ageing analysis and follow-ups.
  • Manage debtor finance functions, reviews, and reporting.
  • Verify and authorize credit notes.

6. Asset Management

  • Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register.

7. Systems & Process Improvement

  • Support ERP system implementation and enhancements.
  • Identify and implement improvements in financial processes, controls, and reporting.
  • Drive efficiencies through automation and real-time reporting solutions.

8. Cross-Functional & Operational Support

  • Collaborate with operational, logistics, and commercial teams to ensure efficient business processes.
  • Undertake additional duties and responsibilities as required by the business.

Qualifications & ExperienceRequired

  • BCom Accounting, BCompt, or equivalent Accounting qualification.
  • SAICA or SAIPA articles completed.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a Financial Accountant or similar financial management role.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including IFRS and the Companies Act.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience managing month-end and year-end financial processes.

Advantageous

  • Syspro or similar ERP system experience.
  • Experience with debtor finance.
  • Exposure to foreign exchange, multi-currency transactions, and cross-border financial operations.
