Job Advert Summary
Timely and accurate processing of Rand Water’s financial results by producing error-free accounting input through verifying, allocating, analysing, posting and reconciling general ledger accounts ensuring the integrity of the entity’s trail balance & VAT activities, through business partnering, driving standardisation and review of end to end business processes, control environment and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation such as Water Services Act, Public Finance Management Act, VAT and IFRS.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or an equivalent qualification in Finance (NQF 7).
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the financial accounting environment, all aspects relating to financial processing, systems, compliance & reporting.
- SAP experience will be an added advantage.
Primary Duties
- Prepare accurate and timely recordings of all financial transactions.
- Maintaining Master data and change control activities.
- Prepare and capture journals monthly.
- Prepare reconciliation of General Ledger accounts.
- Prepare the Rand Water Group trial balance monthly.
- Responsible for all projects settlements at month end.
- Conduct GL verifications to identify misclassifications between general ledger accounts and approves the correction of identifies misapplications of the APM and errors in accounting
- Assist with audit requirements and audit readiness.
- Provide feedback / input to audit queries, RFIs and findings.
- Engage with end users on accuracy of VAT and costs allocations within the system and agree on appropriate corrective measures.
- Standard filing practice of journals, financial supporting documentation & reports.
- Keep abreast with approved policies and procedures effective in the organisation and identify impact to the trial balance.
- Implement initiatives that promote Business partnering through continuous engagement with relevant end users.
- Prepare the notes to the Group’s annual and interim financial statements.
- Ensures that strategic initiatives are implemented according to the approved plan.
Knowledge
- Working knowledge of SAP FI systems and integration with other modules
- Understanding of accounting and business policies, procedures, and processes
- Public Finance Management Act (PFMA)
- Knowledge and application of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
- VAT Legislation
- National Treasury regulations & reporting

- Computer literate especially proficiency in Microsoft office programs and financial accounting packages
