Our technology enables organisations to manage complex payment environments through integrated solutions spanning payment processing, transaction switching, issuing and acquiring, card and fleet management, loyalty and rewards, mobile payments, merchant solutions and other enterprise financial services.
The Role
Payment24 is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Accountant to join our Cape Town-based finance team.
The Financial Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial and management reports, supporting statutory and tax compliance, and ensuring the integrity of the company’s accounting processes.
This is a hands-on accounting role requiring strong knowledge of South African accounting and statutory requirements, including SARS submissions, PAYE and VAT. Previous experience working within an international, multinational or multi-entity organisation would therefore be advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records.
- Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and reconciling items.
- Assist with month-end and year-end financial close processes.
- Prepare supporting schedules and information for annual financial statements.
- Assist with the preparation of statutory financial statements.
- Manage and review accounts payable and accounts receivable processes where required.
- Account for accruals, prepayments, provisions and other general ledger entries.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and related accounting records where applicable.
- Assist with cash flow management and cash flow forecasting.
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Analyse financial information and provide meaningful financial insights to management.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of appropriate financial controls, accounting procedures and finance policies.
- Ensure statutory payments and submissions are completed accurately and within required deadlines.
- Work with finance colleagues, service providers and other stakeholders across different countries where required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 6 year's commercial experience in similar role
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Financial Management or a related field.
- Relevant professional qualification, or progress towards a professional qualification such as CA(SA), ACCA, CIMA, SAIPA or equivalent, would be advantageous.
- Previous experience in a Financial Accountant, Accountant or similar finance role.
- Strong practical understanding of South African accounting and statutory requirements.
- Practical experience with SARS submissions.
- Experience preparing PAYE, EMP201 and EMP501 submissions and reconciliations.
- Experience preparing VAT reconciliations and VAT201 submissions.
- Strong general ledger and balance sheet reconciliation experience.
- Good understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
- Experience using accounting or ERP systems.
- Experience within the fuel, petroleum, retail or technology sectors.
- Experience in payments, fintech or financial services will be advantageous.
