Financial Accountant

We are a leading player in the renewable energy sector, as an EPC contractor and Independent Power Producer (IPP) enabling us to deliver innovative solutions to combat climate change. We are a focused solutions provider to Commercial and Industrial (C&I) customers, with projects spanning across Southern Africa and include roof top, carport, ground mount and wheeled solar projects. We also provide operations and maintenance, asset management, metering, and monitoring services through our various divisions.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Financial Accountant is responsible for the integrity and financial control environment of the Terra Firma operating business. The role ensures balance sheet integrity; assists in month end closing activities and supports delivery of accurate financial results.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• 2-5 years’ work experience is essential
• Working experience with SAP B1 and SAGE Business Cloud Accounting will be a preference

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial reporting

• Prepare and maintain all balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules, investigate variances and clearing of reconciling items.
• Maintain fixed asset registers and process capitalisation, depreciation and disposal transactions.
• Prepare monthly management accounts including income statement, balance sheet and supporting schedules
• Prepare and post monthly journals ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial records, including the correct accounting treatment of prepayments
• Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and supporting accounting records.
• Investigate and explain SG&A and operating expense variances.
• Provide supporting commentary for significant account movements.
• Reporting monthly the actual results in the Onestream consolidation system
• Compilation of information needed on various financial analysis and reporting
• Maintain integrity of the general ledger
• Ensure correct coding to accounts and cost centres.
• Identify cost inefficiencies, overspends, or control gaps and recommend corrective action.
• Support external audit processes and respond to audit queries
• Ad hoc requests from departments for info, explanations, help, support etc
• Ensuring compliance of internal control, IFRS and Companies Act
• In addition, the incumbent would on an ad hoc basis be assigned tasks relating to financial Accounting of the group company, Terra Firma.

Wages Processing & Wage Control Oversight

• Review wages ensuring accuracy of wages and allocation to projects.
• Review wage journals to the general ledger.
• Ensure PAYE and related statutory submissions are accurate and timeously filed.
• Coordinate wage payment runs and ensures appropriate authorization controls are followed.
• Review wage control accounts monthly and ensure discrepancies are resolved.
• Maintain appropriate wage documentation and audit trails.

Tax

• Prepare and submit VAT returns and supporting reconciliations.
• Assist in collation of documents required for company filing and tax audits
