Financial Assistant

Who are we?

Sanlam Life and Savings (SLS) is focused on serving our retail and corporate clients in South Africa and further developing our strategic advantages in the South African market. Sanlam Life and Savings consists of the following business units Retail Mass, Corporate, Risk and Savings, Glacier and various business enabling functions. The Sanlam Life and Savings Office provides strategic direction, coordination and support to the four clusters, as well as performing governance oversight that includes assurance provided by second line of defense functions in SLS, to enable us to meet our business objectives. Purpose of the Role

Provides guidance on financial operations and internal control processes. Supports the execution of financial transactions, reconciliations, and reporting. Ensures compliance with financial policies and assists in identifying control gaps.

What will you do?

Financial Management and Control

• Sound financial management of cost and income.

• Debtors and creditors management

Insights and Reporting

• Assistance with Month End reporting
• Preparation of monthly expense reports, forecasts and variance analysis

Information and Business Advice

• Resolve queries from internal or external customers or suppliers by providing information on complex processes and the related policies, referring issues to others where necessary for interpretation of policy.
• Capturing purchase orders and processing invoices

Data Collection and Analysis

• Preparing and posting journal entries and reconciliations.
• Reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
• Assist with year-end Audit

Solutions Analysis

• Financial process improvement and controls effectiveness.
• Ad hoc special financial project deliverables.
• Assess impact of projects on BAU costs. Qualifications and Experience

Qualifications:

• Accounting Degree or relevant post-matric financial qualification.

Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years' relevant finance experience.
• SAP experience.
• Experience working with multiple stakeholders.
• Strong cost accounting knowledge and abilities.
• Strong computer skills (MS Excel advanced level)
