Financial Controller (Finance & Grants) Location: Cape Town (Philipi/Southern Suburbs office base) Work Model: Hybrid (Structured: Mon, Tue, Thu in office / Wed, Fri remote) Remuneration: R45,000 per month (Cost to Company) About Amandla Development Amandla Development is a non-profit organisation working to strengthen youth wellbeing and community resilience in under-resourced communities across the Western Cape. Our programmes focus on HIV prevention, sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence prevention, education, literacy, and early childhood development. Role Purpose We are seeking a highly autonomous, technically rigorous Financial Controller to anchor our finance department. This is a hands-on role requiring a strong balance of technical accounting skills and practical oversight. You will lead day-to-day financial operations, ensure flawless compliance across multiple restricted donor funding streams, manage audit processes end-to-end, and actively oversee and guide junior finance staff. Key Responsibilities Financial Control & Operations: Maintain full ownership of the general ledger, oversight of data capturing, VAT compliance, and month-end closing processes. Donor & Grant Management: Allocate costs accurately across multiple restricted funding streams, track grant allocations, and prepare precise, audit-ready donor financial reports. Team Oversight: Provide structured daily direction, digital gatekeeping, and review mechanisms for junior junior finance staff to ensure data integrity. Audit & Compliance: Function as the primary point of contact for external auditors; independently prepare complete, clean audit files. Reporting & Strategy: Produce monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasts, and provide actionable financial insights to organizational leadership. Minimum Requirements Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance. Completion of SAIPA or SAICA articles is highly advantageous. Experience: Minimum 4–5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years demonstrating a strong grasp of fund accounting, grant allocation logic, or project-based financial reporting. Skills: Advanced proficiency in Excel (complex reconciliations) and cloud-based accounting systems (e.g., Xero). Management: Proven capability to review junior workflows, implement internal controls, and maintain operational momentum.
