Job description
At Smollan Technologies, we provide a unified, technology-driven suite of products that redefines how businesses handle data. We don’t just manage data; we turn it into a predictive engine. Our Finance team is no different. We are moving away from traditional retro-reflective reporting and flipping the switch on next-gen financial intelligence. By centralising our financial activities within custom-built, automated workflows, we are transforming financial reporting into a forward-thinking strategic asset.
Our vision for our Reporting Specialist is to play a critical role in driving financial agility across the Data & Technology cluster. This isn't just about balancing a trial balance; it’s about deep-diving into our financial architecture, streamlining system processes, and introducing smart automation to advance this function. The ideal candidate is a forward-thinking financial expert who is not only comfortable with modern data structures but actively excited about integrating AI tools and automated workflows to elevate our reporting standards.
We believe that when you hire unique, creative problem solvers and give them flexibility and independence, incredible things happen. Our culture is rooted in a foundation of trust. We foster a diverse, inclusive environment where our people are genuinely cared for, inspired, and empowered to thrive. We are looking for dreamers who love a challenge and want the autonomy to solve it.
What you will do:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Lead the preparation and analysis of complex management reports, including group management accounts, consolidations, budgets, forecasts, Exco reports, and quarterly reviews.
- Process Automation & AI Integration: Proactively identify, design, and implement process efficiencies. Champion automation opportunities and leverage AI tools to streamline financial reporting workflows, moving the function into a highly predictive and agile space.
- Data Integrity & Reconciliation: Manage monthly trial balance uploads into Sage X3, oversee critical trial balance reconciliations, and ensure the absolute accuracy and integrity of financial data captured across all systems.
- System & Master Data Maintenance: Oversee the accurate management of master data within SAGE X3 and reporting systems (including GL accounts, dimensions, cost centres, and period closures), while managing database user roles alongside technical system partners.
- Budget & Forecast Management: Assist in orchestrating key financial cycles by establishing timetables, creating advanced templates, collating multi-entity information, and liaising with regional teams on submissions.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Support: Partner with internal and regional stakeholders to communicate shifts in the financial environment, solve complex financial queries, and provide expert training on Sage X3 and template utilization.
What you need:
- Educational Background & Experience: A Diploma or Degree (NQF level 7) in Finance with 6 to 8 years of professional experience in technical accounting and advanced financial reporting.
- Forward-Thinking Tech & AI Fluency: A strong interest or proven experience in integrating AI tools and advanced automation workflows into financial practices to improve efficiency and data insights.
- Technical & System Proficiency: Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel and strong hands-on experience with Sage X3 (or a similar major ERP framework), including master data management and system maintenance.
- Analytical & Critical Thinking: High numerical aptitude and commercial acumen with the ability to interpret complex financial data structures and turn them into actionable strategic insights.
- Interpersonal & Communication Skills: Exceptional communication skills with the emotional maturity required to manage stakeholder relations, explain technical financial data to diverse teams, and foster cross-functional collaboration.
- Agility & Resilient Problem Solving: An agile mindset capable of balancing tight reporting deadlines, diagnosing data structure issues, and delivering a competitive edge in a fast-paced environment.
