Job description
Finishing Carpenter — Sauna & Thermal Wellness Installations
Build and install the finished timber elements of Finnish saunas, cold plunges and outdoor wellness rooms for luxury lodges, boutique hotels and private residences. Work is split between our workshop and client sites, including remote lodges requiring multi-day stays. Every surface you touch is one the client will see, sit on and run their hand over.
Responsibilities
- Set out and build sauna interiors from drawing sets: batten frameworks, insulation, foil vapour barrier, counter-battens, hardwood T&G cladding
- Build multi-tier bench substructures and duckboard seating with wall and floor restraint details
- Hang and adjust heavy thermo-ash and alder doors (60–70 kg), plus frameless glass doors, to consistent reveals and reliable close
- Assemble demountable flatpack panel systems, including bolted corner joints and vapour barrier continuity at junctions
- Build external decking, screens, plinths and cabinetry to the same standard as the interior
- Sand, prepare and finish all timber — progressive grit sequences, sauna-grade waxes and oils, invisible repairs
- Work from dimensioned, revision-controlled drawings; flag clashes and setting-out issues before they get built
- Protect finished work and hand over rooms that need no snagging
- Load, transport, set up and strip down site installations with the team
Requirements
- 5+ years finishing carpentry, joinery, shopfitting or high-end interior installation
- Confident building from technical drawings to millimetre-level detail without supervision
- Accurate scribing, mitres, T&G setting-out, tapered and out-of-square rooms
- Competent with table saw, track saw, router, planer, domino/biscuit jointer, mitre saw and hand tools
- Understanding of timber movement and moisture in rooms cycling from ambient to 90°C
- Valid driver’s licence (Code 08 min) and willing to travel and stay away for site weeks
- Physically able to handle heavy panels, doors and steel components
- Reliable, sober habits, presentable around guests and owners
- Fluent English communication
Advantageous
- Sauna, spa, wet-room or marine joinery experience
- Insulation, vapour barrier and ventilated cavity build-ups
- Code EB licence (trailer towing) — we build mobile banya units
- Basic metalwork, tiling or waterproofing crossover
- Portfolio photos of own finished work
Pay: R10 000,00 - R15 000,00 per month
