Job description
GXT Fire (Pty) Ltd. is seeking an experienced Fire Detection Commissioner to join our technical team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the commissioning, programming, testing, fault finding, servicing and handover of conventional and addressable fire detection systems on commercial and industrial projects.
The ideal candidate will have excellent technical knowledge, be able to work independently, and maintain a high standard of workmanship while ensuring compliance with applicable SANS standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Commission conventional and addressable fire detection systems.
- Program, configure and test fire alarm control panels.
- Perform fault finding, diagnostics and repairs on fire detection systems.
- Carry out inspections, servicing and maintenance of fire detection systems.
- Complete commissioning certificates, service reports and related documentation.
- Conduct cause and effect testing and witness testing with clients where required.
- Interpret drawings, specifications and system layouts.
- Ensure installations comply with SANS 10139 and all applicable standards.
- Provide technical support and guidance to installation teams.
- Attend call-outs and emergency breakdowns when required.
- Liaise professionally with clients, consultants and contractors.
- Ensure company equipment and vehicles are maintained in good condition.
- Comply with all company Health & Safety requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 3 years' experience in the fire detection industry.
- Proven experience commissioning addressable fire detection systems.
- Good understanding of SANS 10139.
- Valid Code B driver's licence.
- Ability to read technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Computer literate.
- Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
Advantageous
- SAQCC Detection Commissioner registration.
- Experience with one or more of the following systems:
- Ziton
- Kidde
- Kentec
- GST
- C-Tec
- Experience with gaseous suppression systems.
- Experience with voice evacuation systems.
- Experience in commissioning integrated fire systems.
