Job Purpose
- To maintain the Group’s fixed asset register, ensuring accurate fixed assets accounting, compliance with IFRS (primarily IAS 16), and alignment with Group policies and reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining a complete and accurate fixed asset register across entities.
- Record asset additions, disposals, transfers and reclassifications in accordance with Group
- Ensure appropriate componentisation and useful lives in line with IAS 16.
- Track capital projects and close out projects based on accurate completion and validatio of supporting documentation.
- Review the monthly depreciation calculated for property, plant and equipment.
- Review asset useful lives annually (or when indicators arise) and recommend
scraping/disposal of assets.
- Monitor capital expenditure against approved project budgets.
- Assist project managers with identifying significant components of property, plant and
equipment and linking it to supporting documentation.
- Ensure timely capitalisation of capital in progress projects.
- Perform monthly reconciliations between the fixed asset register and the general ledger.
- Investigate and resolve reconciling items timeously.
- Maintain strong internal controls over fixed assets, including asset verification processes.
- Assist with identifying impairment indicators for property, plant and equipment in
identifying obsolete/damaged assets.
- Coordinate and attend periodic asset verifications and ensure the asset registers are
timely updated for the outcome from the verification exercises.
- Investigate discrepancies between physical assets and accounting records.
- Assist in preparing fixed asset notes and disclosures for annual financial statements.
- Assist with internal and external auditors’ requests.
- Review Capex documents for completeness and appropriate level of approval.
Qualification Requirements
- BCom Accounting – 3+ Years working experience
- Strong knowledge of IFRS
Experience Requirements
- Strong knowledge and experience of fixed assets and General Ledger
- Fixed assets Management experience – 2-3 years (Essential)
- Mining and manufacturing experience – 2-3 years (Essential)
