Fleet Controller

Duties and Responsibilities

Plan and optimize daily vehicle routes and schedules to ensure on-time deliveries

Assign vehicles and drivers according to job requirements and capacity

Monitor fleet movements in real-time using GPS and telematics systems

Coordinate with warehouse, sales, and customers on delivery schedules

Schedule and track all vehicle servicing, repairs, and roadworthy checks

Ensure vehicle licenses, insurance, permits, and COFs are valid and renewed on time

Manage vehicle breakdowns and arrange towing, repairs, and replacement vehicles

Maintain accurate fleet records, maintenance history, and vehicle files

Control and monitor fuel consumption and identify areas of wastage

Manage fleet budget and process invoices for fuel, maintenance, and suppliers

Negotiate rates with service providers, fuel companies, and repair workshops

Check and verify driver licenses, PDPs, and medical certificates

Monitor driver behavior including speeding, idling, and harsh driving

Handle driver queries, absenteeism, and shift scheduling

Investigate accidents and incidents and liaise with insurance for claims

Enforce company safety policies and road traffic law compliance

Generate weekly and monthly reports on fleet utilization, costs, and KPIs

Track vehicle downtime, cost per km, and on-time delivery performance

Advise on vehicle purchases, disposals, and fleet replacement planning

Ensure proper use of company vehicles and prevent unauthorized use.

Requirements

Minimum 2 years experience in Fleet Control or Transport Operations

Degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management or related field. Higher Certificate considered with relevant experience

Proficient in GPS tracking systems, fleet management software, and MS Excel

Strong knowledge of South African road traffic laws and fleet compliance

Excellent communication, problem-solving, and negotiation skills

Ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions
