Fleet & Plant Manager

LTC Holding is seeking to employ am experienced and results-driven to Fleet & Plant Manager to take overall responsibility for the effective management, maintenance, utilization and compliance of our fleet and workshop and plant assets.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on manager with strong leadership , technical, and operational expertise who who can drive fleet and plant efficiency while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance and asset management.

This position will be based at Honeydew and will report to the Chief Operations Officer.

Skills and Qualifications:

· Grade 12 / Matric.

· Must have a code 14 drivers’ licence and a PDP.

· Certificate/Diploma and or Degree Mechanical Engineering, Fleet Management, Transport Management, Diesel Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management or a related field would be advantageous.

· Relevant technical/workshop qualifications would be advantageous.

Experience:

· At least 7 to 10 years' relevant experience in fleet, plant, transport, workshop or operational management & Diesel Mechanical Engineering.

· Experience managing a fleet of heavy vehicles/trucks and yellow plant.

· Experience managing workshop personnel and maintenance activities.

· Experience managing drivers and/or Fleet Controllers.

· Experience in waste management, water services, environmental services, logistics or a similar operational environment would be advantageous.

· Experience with fuel management and cost controls.

· Experience with filtration/water-treatment equipment would be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

FLEET MANAGEMENT

Oversee the company's fleet of trucks, vehicles and operational equipment.

Ensure maximum fleet availability and minimize downtime.

Monitor vehicle utilization, kilometers/hours, fuel consumption and operating costs.

Ensure preventative maintenance and servicing schedules are maintained.

Coordinate breakdowns, repairs, recoveries and replacement vehicles.

Monitor vehicle licensing, roadworthiness, inspections and required documentation.

Manage tyre replacement, battery management and other fleet-related consumables.

Implement systems to monitor vehicle condition and driver-related defects.

FLEET CONTROLLER

Manage and approve daily dispatch.

Directly manage and supervise Fleet Controllers.

Ensure Fleet Controllers effectively allocate and monitor drivers and vehicles.

Ensure daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections are completed.

Monitor driver attendance, vehicle movements, route compliance and operational performance.

Ensure incidents, breakdowns and vehicle defects are escalated promptly.

Hold Fleet Controllers accountable for effective driver supervision.

Review fleet and driver performance reports.

DRIVERS AND OPERATIONAL PERSONNEL

Through Fleet Controllers, ensure effective supervision of drivers.

Promote safe driving practices and compliance with company procedures.

Monitor driver performance, disciplinary matters and adherence to working procedures.

Ensure drivers are appropriately licensed and competent for the vehicles/equipment they operate.

Investigate vehicle-related incidents, accidents and complaints.

WORKSHOP MANAGEMENT

Oversee the workshop and workshop personnel.

Ensure preventative and corrective maintenance is completed efficiently.

Monitor workshop productivity, turnaround times and outstanding repairs.

Control maintenance costs, parts usage and external repair expenditure.

Ensure workshop equipment and tools are properly maintained.

Maintain accurate service, repair and maintenance records.

Manage relationships with external service providers and suppliers where required.

FUEL MANAGEMENT

Take overall responsibility for fuel management and control.

Monitor fuel consumption by vehicle, driver and/or operational activity.

Investigate abnormal fuel usage and potential losses.

Ensure fuel storage and dispensing procedures are followed.

Maintain accurate fuel records and reconciliations.

Implement appropriate controls to prevent fuel theft, wastage and unauthorized usage.

FILTRATION AND WATER-RELATED EQUIPMENT

Oversee filtration systems and associated plant/equipment.

Ensure filtration equipment is maintained and operational.

Monitor maintenance schedules, filter replacement and consumable requirements.

Ensure equipment performance and operating parameters are monitored.

Coordinate repairs and technical interventions where is required.

HEALTH & SAFETY, ENVIRONMENTAL AND COMPLIANCE

Ensure fleet and workshop activities comply with applicable South African legislation and company requirements.

Promote a strong safety culture across the fleet and workshop.

Ensure vehicles and equipment are operated safely and maintained to required standards.

Ensure required inspections, records and certificates are maintained.

Support investigations into accidents, incidents, equipment failures and environmental events.

Ensure workshop, fuel and waste-handling activities are managed responsibly.

COST MANAGEMENT

Prepare and manage fleet/workshop operating budgets.

Monitor fuel, maintenance, repairs, tyres, parts and external service costs.

Identify opportunities to reduce operating costs without compromising safety or reliability.

Approve expenditure within delegated authority.

Monitor supplier performance and negotiate where appropriate.
