Purpose of the Role

The Front of House Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the front-of-house team while delivering an exceptional customer experience. This role oversees service standards, staff performance, cash handling, customer satisfaction, and the overall presentation of the restaurant.

Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Experience

• Welcome and engage with customers professionally.
• Ensure every customer receives outstanding service.
• Resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally.
• Maintain a warm, clean, and inviting dining environment.

Team Leadership

• Supervise, coach, and motivate front-of-house employees.
• Allocate daily duties and manage shift schedules.
• Train new employees on service standards and company procedures.
• Conduct pre-shift team briefings.
• Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, grooming, and performance.

Operations

• Open and close the restaurant according to company procedures.
• Ensure all service areas are fully prepared before opening.
• Monitor food service times and coordinate closely with the kitchen.
• Ensure tables, counters, displays, and equipment remain clean and presentable.
• Maintain stock levels of beverages, packaging, and front-end consumables.

Cash Control

• Supervise all POS transactions.
• Perform cash-ups and reconcile tills accurately.
• Investigate and report any cash discrepancies.
• Ensure company cash handling procedures are followed.

Food Safety & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
• Maintain cleanliness throughout the front-of-house area.
• Enforce health and safety procedures.
• Ensure all staff comply with company policies and uniform standards.

Administration

• Complete daily operational reports.
• Record customer feedback and incidents.
• Assist with stock counts and inventory control.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, and performance management where required.

Minimum Requirements

• Minimum 3 years' experience supervising a restaurant front-of-house team.
• Grade 12 (Matric).
• Experience working with POS systems.
• Cash handling and reconciliation experience.
• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work weekends, public holidays, and shifts.
• Clear criminal record.

Preferred Requirements

• Hospitality qualification (advantageous).
• Barista experience (advantageous).
• First Aid and Food Safety certification (advantageous).
