Front of house Supervisor
Purpose of the Role
The Front of House Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the front-of-house team while delivering an exceptional customer experience. This role oversees service standards, staff performance, cash handling, customer satisfaction, and the overall presentation of the restaurant.
Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer Experience
- Welcome and engage with customers professionally.
- Ensure every customer receives outstanding service.
- Resolve customer complaints promptly and professionally.
- Maintain a warm, clean, and inviting dining environment.
Team Leadership
- Supervise, coach, and motivate front-of-house employees.
- Allocate daily duties and manage shift schedules.
- Train new employees on service standards and company procedures.
- Conduct pre-shift team briefings.
- Monitor staff attendance, punctuality, grooming, and performance.
Operations
- Open and close the restaurant according to company procedures.
- Ensure all service areas are fully prepared before opening.
- Monitor food service times and coordinate closely with the kitchen.
- Ensure tables, counters, displays, and equipment remain clean and presentable.
- Maintain stock levels of beverages, packaging, and front-end consumables.
Cash Control
- Supervise all POS transactions.
- Perform cash-ups and reconcile tills accurately.
- Investigate and report any cash discrepancies.
- Ensure company cash handling procedures are followed.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
- Maintain cleanliness throughout the front-of-house area.
- Enforce health and safety procedures.
- Ensure all staff comply with company policies and uniform standards.
Administration
- Complete daily operational reports.
- Record customer feedback and incidents.
- Assist with stock counts and inventory control.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and performance management where required.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 3 years' experience supervising a restaurant front-of-house team.
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Experience working with POS systems.
- Cash handling and reconciliation experience.
- Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Ability to work weekends, public holidays, and shifts.
- Clear criminal record.
Preferred Requirements
- Hospitality qualification (advantageous).
- Barista experience (advantageous).
- First Aid and Food Safety certification (advantageous).
