Job description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ Mooirivier Junction Store in Potchefstroom has an opportunity available for a Frontshop Assistant to join the team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for upholding Dis-Chem merchandising standards while supporting customer service at the point of sale, in accordance with Dis-Chem policies, procedures and standard operating procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Essential
- Grade 12 – Matric or Senior Certificate.
- 0–6 months’ retail work experience.
Advantageous
- 1 year’s work experience within a retail environment.
- Certification in Retail Business Management.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure the full range of products is available on the shelves at all times and neatly presented.
- Maintain stock on the shelves and ensure products have not reached their sell-by date.
- Restock merchandise when required to maximise sales.
- Follow up on all customer out-of-stock queries in line with the customer service out-of-stock list and ensure they are addressed timeously.
- Ensure delivered stock and/or stock pulled from the storeroom is stored and packed in the correct space.
- Ensure merchandise displays, labels and pricing are correct at all times and report price discrepancies to management.
- Ensure the storeroom is organised, neat and tidy.
- Keep up to date with new product knowledge to effectively assist customers.
- Assist with restocking merchandise and supplies when required to maximise sales.
- Assist with back shopping when required.
- Handle all merchandise carefully to prevent losses.
- Transact all purchases by receiving, verifying and processing payments, including cash, cards, vouchers,
- coupons and any other acceptable payment methods.
- Exchange merchandise and accept returned goods from customers when authorised to do so by the Frontshop Leader.
- Process all loyalty cards, including those of accelerated partners.
- Ensure cash is placed in the drop safe in accordance with standard operating procedures.
- Ensure all line voids and price changes are approved and signed by a Frontshop Leader and/or Retail Store Assistant.
- Ensure accurate cash flow at all times.
- Facilitate regular stock rotation and adhere to Dis-Chem stock control procedures.
- Report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, damaged stock and expired stock to management.
- Assist with counting stock files and general stocktaking.
- Identify and immediately report damaged and expired stock to management.
- Assist with loading and off-loading of stock when required.
- Ensure boxes are flattened after unpacking stock and taken to the designated area.
- Establish professional relationships with customers and provide friendly, helpful and courteous assistance and advice.
- Report customer compliments and complaints to management.
- Adhere to the customer turnover-per-hour rate in accordance with the company benchmark.
- Assist with the training of new and current team members.
- Ensure outgoing stock, items and scripts are scanned and paid for.
- Keep daily takings, including cash, cheques, vouchers, card slips, line voids and incomplete dockets, inside the till drawer until they are placed in the drop safe.
- Report bad and suspicious behaviour relating to both staff and customers to management.
- Maintain housekeeping in accordance with Dis-Chem standards.
- Adhere to Dis-Chem Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Adhere to Health and Safety rules and regulations.
- Adhere to the Dis-Chem Uniform and Personal Appearance Policy.
Competencies
Essential
- Knowledge of retail operations and administration.
- Ability to identify potential issues, find solutions and understand when and to whom problems should be escalated.
- Ability to comprehend fundamental arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Ability to convey ideas and facts verbally using appropriate language.
- Ability to address customer questions in a timely manner.
- Recognises the need for procedures and follows relevant procedures.
- Takes personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work and achieves results with minimal supervision.
Advantageous
- Basic computer skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Sound numerical skills.
- SAP knowledge.
Special Conditions of Employment
- Be able to work retail hours.
- South African citizen.
- MIE, no criminal record and clear credit rating.
- Driver’s licence and own reliable transport.
