Garment Care Specialist

Role Overview

The Garment Care Specialist manages the day-to-day processing of a drop-off serviced laundromat. This role is responsible for executing the end-to-end laundry cycle—from customer intake to final packaging—while maintaining a clean, welcoming environment and delivering excellent customer service.

Core Responsibilities

• Customer Intake & Dispatch: Greet customers, receive drop-off laundry, accurately weigh loads, invoice orders, and process cash or card payments via the Point of Sale (POS) system.
• Sorting & Preparation: Inspect garments for stains, check pockets for left-behind items, and sort laundry strictly by color, fabric type, and washing requirements to prevent damage.
• Machine Operation: Load and operate commercial washers and dryers. Select the correct water temperatures, cycle types, and detergent quantities based on fabric care labels.
• Finishing & Packaging: Neatly fold, iron (if required), and package clean laundry. Ensure orders are correctly tagged and stored systematically for easy retrieval upon customer collection.
• Quality Assurance: Ensure strict order separation so items from different customers are never mixed. Cross-check finished loads against the original intake receipt.
• Equipment & Store Maintenance: Empty lint filters multiple times per shift, wipe down machine exteriors and folding tables, sweep/mop floors, and immediately report any machine errors or leaks.

Requirements & Skills

• Experience: Previous experience in a laundromat, housekeeping, or customer-facing retail role is advantageous but not strictly required.
• Attention to Detail: High accuracy in sorting garments, following specific customer washing instructions, and tracking individual orders.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods, handle warm environments, and safely lift heavy laundry bags (up to 15-20 kg).
• Basic Literacy & Numeracy: Must be able to read care labels, operate a digital POS system, and handle basic payment calculations.
• Communication: Polite, friendly demeanor for customer interactions and clear communication regarding order turnaround times.

Pay: R6 000,00 - R7 000,00 per month
