Gearbox Mechanic

We are looking for an experienced Transmission / Gearbox Builder to join our workshop team. The successful candidate must be able to strip, rebuild, assemble, and test heavy-duty transmission gearboxes for buses and earthmoving machinery (not passenger vehicles).

The role requires strong mechanical knowledge, attention to detail, and experience working with major transmission brands.

Key Responsibilities

• Strip, inspect, diagnose, and rebuild heavy-duty transmission gearboxes
• Assemble transmissions to manufacturer specifications
• Identify worn or damaged components and recommend replacements
• Conduct measurements, clearances, and adjustments during rebuilds
• Perform fault finding and troubleshooting on gearbox and transmission systems
• Test transmissions after rebuild to ensure correct performance
• Maintain clean and organized work area
• Complete job cards, inspection reports, and documentation
• Ensure work is completed safely and according to workshop standards

Required Experience / Knowledge

• Proven experience rebuilding heavy-duty transmissions and gearboxes
• Experience working on the following transmissions is essential:
• Volvo
• Allison
• CAT (Caterpillar)
• Bell
• Ecomat / ZF Ecomat
• Strong mechanical skills and ability to work independently
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
