As a General Assistant (Facilities), you will play an important role in creating and maintaining safe, functional and welcoming environments that support our people and operations. Through carrying out preventative and reactive maintenance activities, you will help ensure that facilities, equipment and infrastructure remain in excellent working condition. This role is ideally suited to someone who takes pride in delivering quality work, enjoys solving practical problems and understands the value of reliable service. Your contribution will help create positive everyday experiences for colleagues, support a culture of accountability and excellence, and enable the organisation to operate effectively and sustainably.

To be successful in this role, you will have a Grade 12 (NQF Level 4 equivalent) qualification or N3. We are looking for individuals who are eager to learn, committed to maintaining high standards and motivated to build a career within a facilities environment. A positive attitude, willingness to take ownership of responsibilities and dedication to delivering dependable service will help you thrive in this position. You should also be willing to travel as required and have a valid South African drivers licence: Code B.

This opportunity is well suited to individuals with up to three years of experience in building maintenance, handyman services or a similar environment. Experience in carrying out general repairs and maintenance tasks across facilities will enable you to contribute effectively from the outset. Whether responding to maintenance requests, supporting facilities-related projects or assisting with contractor activities, you will bring a practical and solutions-focused approach to your work. We value individuals who are keen to continuously develop their skills and expand their knowledge while contributing positively to the team.

Success in this role comes from combining technical capability with a strong service mindset. You will be confident communicating with a wide range of people, delivering professional customer service and building positive working relationships, maintaining confidentiality and also have basic problem-solving skills and the ability to identify risks. Strong organisational skills will help you manage multiple tasks effectively while maintaining attention to detail and accurate records.

You will have a sound understanding of general maintenance practices, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry and painting work, along with the ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools and maintenance equipment. An awareness/knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements is essential, as is a commitment to maintaining safe working practices and identifying potential risks before they become issues.

You will be comfortable using basic computer applications, including a Computer-Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system, and be proficient in written and spoken English. In addition, you will have completed the required SHE training.
