SUMMARY: General Welder
POSITION INFO: Qualification Grade 12 Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Trade Test in Welding (advantageous but not essential) Requirements Minimum 3 years' proven experience as a welder in a manufacturing or engineering environment. Valid drivers license Experience working from engineering drawings. Experience with fabrication and assembly of metal components. Must be proficient in \"Stick\" (SMAW) and \"TIG\" (GTAW) processes. Must be proficient to weld at least in a 3G position (6G bonus) Must be proficient in the following welding material: Stainless steel (304L \/ 316L) Carbon Steel \/ Mild steel (516GR70 \/ 430A \/ etc.) Aluminium (1050 \/ 1050H14 Attention to detail and be safety conscious Quality conscious Good hand-eye coordination, with the ability to work independently and under pressure Problem-solving ability, with good communication skills, also ensuring that production issues are communicated promptly Efficient Time management Be reliable and dependable Team player - Work effectively with supervisors and colleagues Safely manufacture, fabricate, repair and assemble metal components by performing high-quality welding using approved welding procedures and company quality standards. Responsible for ensuring that fabricated products meet dimensional, quality and safety requirements while maintaining productivity targets Stand for extended periods. Lift materials within safe manual handling limits. Work in confined spaces where required. Work in hot environments. Perform repetitive manual tasks. Use power tools safely. Wear PPE for extended periods. Duties Production schedules Work instructions Engineering drawings Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) Material issue documentation Raw materials Welding consumables Welding equipment Measuring instruments Quality standards Safety procedures Job cards Repair requests Maintain good housekeeping standards in accordance with company policies. Complete work within agreed production timelines. Minimise material waste. Reduce rework through quality workmanship. Assist with continuous improvement initiatives. Meet daily production targets where applicable Quality welded components Fabricated assemblies meeting drawing specifications Completed production orders Accurate dimensional compliance Defect-free welds Properly completed job documentation Safe and clean work area Minimal material wastage Equipment maintained in working condition Compliance with quality and safety standards Equipment Maintenance Inspect welding equipment before use. Perform basic daily maintenance. Keep welding machines clean. Replace worn consumables. Report equipment faults promptly. Ensure tools are stored correctly Safety Wear prescribed PPE at all times. Follow company safety procedures. Maintain a clean and organised workstation. Document No.SP6.2 SF16 Revision No.: 0 Page 5 of 5 Handle gas cylinders safely Ensure fire prevention measures are followed. Participate in safety meetings Fabrication Assemble fabricated components. Prepare materials before welding. Cut, grind and fit materials. Verify dimensions before welding. Maintain dimensional accuracy throughout fabrication. Assist with fitting and assembly when required Quality Control Inspect completed welds. Verify work against drawings and specifications. Identify welding defects. Correct non-conforming work. Ensure all work complies with company quality
