An opportunity exists for an exceptional Occupational Therapist (Privately Funded) to join the school from January 2027.

Role Overview:

The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for supporting learners’ academic, social, emotional and functional development. The successful candidate will be doing this by assessing learning barriers. The Occupational Therapist will also be responsible for ensuring learner well-being, independence and inclusion within the St Peter’s Girls Prep.

Duties (not an exhaustive list):

  • Support the collaborative structure of the Academic Support Unit (ASU)
  • Support pupil sensory processing, fine motor, written output, emotional regulation, executive functioning and participation whilst utilising a Response to Intervention model
  • Work closely with teaching staff, pupils and parents with the goal of assisting those in need of intervention
  • Have the ability to run an independent practice (including billing, invoicing parents directly and report writing)
  • Conduct pupil assessments to determine occupational therapy needs
  • Develop individual pupil therapy plans, make necessary referrals and assist with implementing practical classroom strategies and recommendations in collaboration with Head of ASU
  • Manage and maintain pupil records by consolidating records from the classroom and therapy sessions
  • Provide regular feedback to parents on learners' progress
  • Actively promote St Peter's Prep Schools' attributes and values
  • In lieu of rent, make time available for therapy meetings, parent meetings, teacher consultations and classroom observations

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registration with the HPCSA
  • Minimum 5 years working in paediatrics
  • Knowledge in Sensory Processing and inclusive school practices

  • Ability to make a difference in the lives of children and their families
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and the entire therapy team
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills (including excellent report writing)
  • Have autonomy while being well supported
  • Able to contribute to a positive team culture within the school
  • Ability to recommend and implement classroom accommodation and environmental adaptations
  • Competence in managing individual and group therapy sessions
