GMR 2.1 SUPERVISOR & HSE SPECIALIST

Ensures compliance with OHS legislation and General Machinery Regulations. Oversees machinery safety and statutory requirements alongside appointed GMRs. Manages machinery-related risks with Engineering, Operations and contractors. Drives HSE compliance, accountability and continuous improvement.

Main Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain the site HSE Management System and ensure compliance with applicable legislation, standards and company requirements.
• Fulfil the statutory duties of the GMR 2.1 appointment and provide oversight of machinery, plant and engineering safety.
• Ensure statutory inspections, examinations, testing, maintenance and machinery records are completed and maintained on time.
• Lead hazard identification, risk assessments and implementation of effective risk controls across operations and projects.
• Monitor legal compliance, audits, corrective actions, statutory registers, appointments and certificates.
• Provide HSE and GMR oversight for engineering projects, machinery installations, modifications and commissioning activities.
• Manage contractor HSE compliance, including competency, induction, documentation, inspections and performance.
• Support incident investigations, root-cause analysis, emergency preparedness and implementation of corrective actions.
• Drive HSE training, awareness, safety culture and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide accurate HSE, statutory, machinery-safety and financial reporting, while managing the departmental HSE budget and expenses.
• Management of the SHE department and Health Care Centre.

Job Requirements Qualification:

• BSc degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent recognised engineering qualification.
• Government Certificate of Competency: Factories, where required for the formal statutory appointment and site requirements.
• A relevant qualification in HSE management, occupational health and safety, risk management or legal compliance.
• Formal training relating to the Occupational Health and Safety Act and General Machinery Regulations

Experience:

• Minimum of 15 years’ relevant working experience in a manufacturing, engineering, pharmaceutical or industrial environment. With at least 5 years in a leadership position.
• Demonstrable experience in machinery supervision, maintenance, engineering operations or plant-safety management.
• Experience conducting risk assessments, inspections, audits and incident investigations.
• Experience supporting engineering projects, machinery installations and facility modifications.
• Experience managing contractor safety and statutory compliance.
• Experience interpreting legislation and technical standards and translating them into operational controls.
• Experience managing departmental budgets, expenses and financial forecasts.
• Supervisory or specialist-level experience in a complex manufacturing environment.
• Leading teams.
