Job description

Trinityhouse – Foundation Phase Teacher The Role We are seeking a nurturing, dynamic and passionate educator to join our Foundation Phase. The ideal candidate is future focused, values aligned and committed to developing the whole child through strong relationships, structured routines, play based learning, early literacy, numeracy, social development and Christian values.

You will play a key role in building strong academic and emotional foundations for young students in a warm, collaborative, structured and Christian environment.

Academic Delivery

  • Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons that build strong foundations in Literacy, Numeracy and Life Skills, while encouraging curiosity, confidence, creativity and age appropriate problem solving.
  • Design integrated, hands on and play based learning experiences that support language development, early mathematical thinking, perceptual skills, fine motor development, social development and independence.
  • Differentiate teaching to support varied developmental stages, learning needs and readiness levels, using concrete resources, small group teaching, targeted support and appropriate digital tools.
  • Use age appropriate technology and digital resources to enrich learning, support engagement and develop early digital confidence where appropriate.
  • Create a structured, nurturing and stimulating classroom environment that supports routines, active participation, confidence and a love of learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning, intervention, innovation and professional learning initiatives.

Assessment & Reporting

  • Conduct continuous, age appropriate assessment through observation, oral activities, written tasks, practical activities, reading assessments, phonics checks and numeracy tasks to monitor student progress.
  • Track developmental milestones, reading progress, phonological awareness, handwriting, fine motor development, number sense and social emotional growth.
  • Use assessment evidence to identify barriers to learning early, implement targeted interventions and work with support teams and parents to strengthen student progress.
  • Provide timely, constructive and developmentally appropriate feedback that encourages confidence, effort, independence and growth.
  • Maintain accurate academic records and contribute to moderation, reporting and parent feedback processes.

Student Support & Behaviour

  • Foster a safe, respectful, caring and values driven classroom environment aligned with the school’s Christian ethos.
  • Support students’ emotional, social and academic development while addressing barriers to learning through appropriate support structures.
  • Support students in developing independence, emotional regulation, resilience, kindness, teamwork, communication and respect for others.
  • Use positive behaviour management strategies, clear routines and age appropriate expectations to support a calm and purposeful learning environment.

School & Brand Engagement

  • Represent Trinityhouse at school events, open days and community engagements to strengthen brand presence and stakeholder relationships.
  • Build close, proactive partnerships with parents through regular communication, care, guidance and collaboration to support each student’s academic, emotional and social development.
  • Support and participate in extra curricular activities that promote confidence, teamwork, creativity, leadership and personal growth.

Administration & Health & Safety

  • Manage class administration efficiently and maintain accurate student records.
  • Manage class routines, communication platforms, homework, reading records, student portfolios and parent communication efficiently.
  • Maintain careful supervision of young students during classroom activities, transitions, playtime, outings and school events.
  • Uphold safeguarding, health and safety, first response and duty of care responsibilities at all times.

Professional Growth & Collaboration

  • Participate actively in professional learning communities, peer collaboration, coaching and continuous professional development initiatives.
  • Stay current with educational research and best practice in early childhood development, Foundation Phase teaching and learning support.
  • Contribute positively to a collaborative phase team focused on student growth, care, consistency and academic excellence.

Minimum Requirements

  • Relevant teaching qualification in Foundation Phase Education, preferably B.Ed Foundation Phase Teaching, NQF Level 7 or higher.
  • 2 to 5 years of teaching experience, or at least a 1 year internship for exceptional candidates.
  • Valid SACE registration and police clearance.
  • Ability to teach across the Foundation Phase curriculum, including Literacy, Numeracy and Life Skills.
  • Sound understanding of early childhood development and Foundation Phase pedagogy.
  • Strong knowledge of phonics, early reading, handwriting, number sense and play based learning.
  • Strong classroom management, planning, communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to create a nurturing, structured and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
  • Experience or involvement in sport, cultural activities or school events will be advantageous.

Preferred

  • Experience in early literacy, phonics, reading development or intervention programmes.
  • Training or experience in barriers to learning, inclusive education, remedial support or early childhood development.
  • Experience with digital tools appropriate for Foundation Phase teaching, learning and parent communication.
  • Familiarity with the CAPS Foundation Phase curriculum.
