The Opportunity: Group SHEQ Manager

We’re looking for a Group SHEQ Manager to drive lead, develop, and implement the Group’s SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) strategy across all business units in South Africa, with oversight of operations in Australia. You’ll work closely with the brand leaders, clients, and regulators to deliver world-class outcomes aligned with Adcorp’s vision and industry benchmarks.

What you will need

  • Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in SHEQ management within diverse and multi-site operations.
  • Extensive knowledge in the OHS Act, Mine Health & Safety Act, COID Act, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and other applicable legislation
  • Experience in implementing, maintaining, and auditing ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 systems, with extensive knowledge in legal compliance, policy implementation, auditing, and process improvement
  • Tertiary qualification in Health & Safety Management, Environmental Management, and/or Legal Studies (essential)
  • Management Development qualification (advantageous)
  • Postgraduate qualification (advantageous)

What you will be doing

  • Develop and implement the Integrated SHEQ Management System and strategy across all brands and geographies
  • Guide and support leaders to achieve objectives aligned with ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001 standards
  • Drive continuous improvement and embed a culture of accountability, visible felt leadership, and safety ownership
  • Conduct gap analyses, align corrective action plans with industry benchmarks, and identify key HSE initiatives
  • Support progression toward zero fatalities and reduced environmental impact (carbon emissions, pollution, contamination)
  • Ensure compliance with OHS Act, COIDA, Mine Health & Safety Act (where applicable), Food Safety, and related legislation
  • Maintain audit readiness to ensure ISO certifications (ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001)
  • Implement and verify critical risk controls to prevent serious injuries and fatalities
  • Oversee incident reporting, investigations (ICAM, HFACS), corrective action closure, and Section 24 regulator reporting
  • Review Section 37(2) Agreements and legal appointments
  • Ensure Health & Safety Committee meetings (monthly for Staffing Solutions, quarterly for other brands) takeplace
  • Conduct regular SHEQ and sustainability audits, follow up deviations, and drive corrective and preventive actions
  • Facilitate annual review of SHEQ Policies
  • Exercise authority to stop unsafe work and enforce compliance with permits and by laws
  • Implement SHEQ standards and procedures across all operations and client sites
  • Oversee contractor management and client interface regarding SHEQ responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain emergency response, security protocols, and business continuity plans
  • Provide guidance on COID, injury case management, compensation claims, and first aid matters
  • Conduct site audits, inspections, and trend analysis, ensuring findings are closed promptly
  • Manage SHEQ records, including permits, driver medicals, heavy machinery licenses, and HSE documentation
  • Produce monthly regional reports and SHEQ newsflashes for teams and executives
  • Conduct training needs analysis and implement tailored SHEQ training programs
  • Mentor and build capacity of SHE Representatives, Regional SHEQ Specialists/Officers, and line managers
  • Develop and roll out awareness campaigns, induction systems, and behavioural safety programmes
  • Lead development of digital learning content (videos, posters, mobile apps)
  • Ensure legal training for First Aiders, Fire Fighters, and Emergency Coordinators is carried out
  • Leverage Microsoft Power Apps, dashboards, and mobile/web applications for SHEQ performance management
  • Digitize SHEQ processes including risk assessments, audits, inspections, and incident tracking
  • Provide real-time reporting and analytics for Exco, Group, and Board Committees, benchmarking against industry standards
  • Innovate to enhance efficiency, data accuracy, and decision-making
  • Present SHEQ performance, trends, and recommendations to Exco, Board, and governance structures for South Africa and Australia
  • Build strong relationships with regulators, ISO auditors, clients, and industry bodies.
  • Collaborate with brand leaders and clients to ensure SHEQ best practice and contractual compliance
  • Provide SHEQ support to contingent, deployed, and full-time employees
  • Keep Group Executives fully informed of all relevant SHEQ matters for South Africa and Australia
  • Support operating entities in contract negotiations where OHS risks and responsibilities apply
  • Contribute to a culture of delivery excellence by building strong relationships and enabling feedback
  • Ensure SHEQ practices enhance client satisfaction and Adcorp reputation
  • Review and manage the annual SHEQ budget
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures to mitigate financial risks and prevent losses
  • Lead, manage, and support a team of SHEQ Specialists and Officers
  • Schedule and allocate resources effectively to meet operational requirements
  • Implement process and schedule changes in line with Adcorp approval frameworks
  • Create a learning-enabled environment that motivates, develops, and ensures competence across the SHEQ team
