Handyman

Purpose of the Job

The Handyman is responsible for carrying out day-to-day maintenance, repairs, and basic installations across a portfolio of residential accommodation and commercial properties. The role ensures that properties are safe, functional, well-maintained, and presented to an acceptable standard.

Key Responsibilities

General Maintenance

• Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs across properties
• Conduct regular inspections and identify maintenance issues early
• Respond to maintenance requests and breakdowns in a timely manner

Repairs & Technical Tasks

• Basic plumbing (leaks, taps, toilets, blocked drains, geyser checks)
• Basic electrical work (replacing lights, plugs, switches, fault finding – non-certified work only)
• Carpentry (doors, locks, hinges, cupboards, shelving, minor wood repairs)
• Painting and patching (touch-ups, small areas, surface preparation)
• Tiling and grouting repairs
• Minor plastering and wall repairs

Property Upkeep

• Ensure common areas are clean, safe, and in good condition
• Maintain fixtures, fittings, and appliances
• Assist with unit turnovers (pre- and post-tenant inspections, snag lists)
• Report on major repairs or compliance issues to management

Compliance & Safety

• Follow health and safety regulations on all sites
• Ensure tools and equipment are used correctly and safely
• Identify hazards and report risks immediately

Administration & Communication

• Keep basic records of work completed and materials used
• Communicate clearly with tenants, property managers, and contractors
• Coordinate with external contractors when required

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Relevant technical training or trade experience (advantageous but not essential)
• Valid driver’s license (essential)

Skills Requirements

• Proven experience as a handyman or maintenance technician
• Strong practical skills across multiple trades

• Experience working in residential and/or commercial properties
