Job Purpose

To provide exceptional beverage service to guests at Qwabi Private Game Reserve by preparing and serving drinks professionally, maintaining high service standards, and contributing to an outstanding guest experience within a luxury hospitality environment.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent advantageous
  • Previous experience as a senior bartender or Head Barman in luxury hospitality preferred
  • Strong knowledge of beverages, wines, cocktails, and bar service standards
  • Mixology qualification or training advantageous
  • Experience with stock control and bar administration
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays
  • Well-groomed and professional appearance

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Bar Operations

  • Prepare and serve alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages according to lodge standards
  • Ensure beverages are prepared and served according to lodge standards
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and presentation within all bar areas
  • Assist with setting up and closing bar areas daily
  • Ensure bar equipment, glassware, and service areas are properly maintained
  • Develop and maintain beverage menus and signature cocktail offerings

Guest Experience

  • Deliver exceptional and personalised guest service at all times
  • Engage with guests professionally and create a welcoming atmosphere
  • Handle guest complaints and special requests efficiently and professionally
  • Ensure guests receive prompt, attentive, and high-quality beverage service

Stock Control & Administration

  • Manage beverage stock levels, ordering, and inventory control
  • Conduct regular stock takes and minimise wastage, losses, and breakages
  • Ensure proper storage and rotation of stock according to standards
  • Monitor beverage costs and assist in achieving departmental financial targets
  • Maintain accurate bar records and reports

Staff Supervision & Training

  • Supervise, support, and motivate bar staff
  • Conduct on-the-job training and coaching to improve service standards and product knowledge
  • Ensure staff adhere to grooming, hygiene, and operational standards
  • Assist with staff scheduling and performance management where required

Hygiene, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, health, and liquor regulations
  • Promote responsible service of alcohol at all times
  • Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed
  • Maintain a safe and hygienic working environment

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work closely with restaurant, kitchen, and management teams to ensure seamless guest experiences
  • Communicate effectively with all departments
  • Promote teamwork, professionalism, and a positive working environment
