PURPOSE
The Head: CPSO Business Management is responsible for enabling the effective operation of the Chief Product and Scheme Officer’s portfolio by driving strategic alignment, governance discipline, executive reporting, portfolio coordination, stakeholder preparation and delivery follow-through.
The role acts as the operating lead for the CPSO Office, ensuring that strategic priorities across Product, Scheme, Commercialization, Fraud Intelligence, Card, Faster Payments, Electronic Payments and related enterprise functions are translated into clear plans, accountable actions, executive-quality reporting and measurable outcomes.
As PayInc evolves into a National Payments Utility, this role is central to ensuring that the CPSO portfolio operates with discipline, clarity, commercial focus, regulatory awareness and strong execution rhythm.
You will engage with the following stakeholders:

- Delivery, Shared Services, Support and Governance representatives
Your key responsibilities include:
CPSO Office Operating Rhythm and Governance
- Design, manage and continuously improve the CPSO Office operating rhythm.
- Coordinate CPSO leadership meetings, portfolio reviews, strategic planning sessions and management control forums.
- Maintain decision logs, action trackers, risk registers, issue logs and dependency maps.
- Track commitments arising from CPSO, Exco, Board, regulatory and stakeholder engagements.
- Ensure appropriate governance structures, reporting standards and escalation mechanisms are in place.
- Facilitate alignment between CPSO teams and the broader PayInc business.
Strategic Execution and Portfolio Coordination
- Support the CPSO in translating enterprise and portfolio strategy into executable priorities.
- Coordinate strategic initiatives across PayShap, TCIB, Card, Fraud Intelligence, Scheme Management, Electronic Payments and Product Commercialisation.
- Track progress against annual plans, quarterly priorities, OKRs, business plans and strategic deliverables.
- Identify cross-portfolio dependencies, risks, constraints and execution bottlenecks.
- Escalate matters requiring CPSO intervention or executive decision-making.
- Support prioritisation across competing product, scheme, commercial, regulatory and operational demands.
Executive Reporting and Decision Support
- Prepare high-quality reports, briefing notes, dashboards, decision papers and presentations for the CPSO, CEO, Exco, Board committees and other governance
forums.
- Convert complex inputs from multiple teams into clear, concise and decision-oriented executive narratives.
- Coordinate inputs from CPSO business areas and ensure consistency, accuracy and quality of reporting.
- Track matters arising from executive forums and ensure follow-through.
- Prepare the CPSO for key internal and external engagements through briefing packs, talking points and issue summaries.
Regulatory and Stakeholder Coordination
- Support preparation for engagements with SARB, NPSD, PSMB structures, banks, fintechs, industry bodies and other ecosystem stakeholders.
- Maintain visibility of regulatory commitments, submissions, responses and follow-up actions.
- Coordinate internal inputs for regulatory papers, scheme matters, market consultations and industry engagements.
- Ensure stakeholder engagements are planned, documented and followed through.
- Support the CPSO in managing stakeholder alignment across internal business areas, delivery teams, shared services and governance functions.
Business Performance, Financial Management and Commercial Discipline
- Provide input into the CPSO budget and monitor performance against revenue, cost, volume and business case commitments.
- Support expense analysis, revenue analysis, budget variance tracking, trend analysis and portfolio-level reporting.
- Track product and scheme performance indicators, including adoption, volumes, commercial performance and strategic impact.
- Support pricing, business case and investment discussions by coordinating relevant inputs and analysis.
- Ensure financial management reporting supports decision-making and portfolio accountability.
Risk, Compliance and Controls
- Own and coordinate the CPSO risk register in alignment with enterprise risk practices.
- Facilitate regular risk engagements across CPSO business areas to ensure risks are clearly described, ownership is assigned and appropriate treatment
plans are in place.
- Act as the CPSO risk champion and ensure risks, issues and control gaps are escalated appropriately.
- Support compliance with relevant policies, procedures, regulation, legislation and scheme obligations.
- Coordinate the development, amendment and implementation of relevant CPSO policies, procedures and control standards where required.
Business Standards and Engagement Model Optimisation
- Review CPSO operating models, engagement models, processes and reporting mechanisms to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Recommend improvements to systems, processes, procedures and working methods to improve effectiveness, efficiency, accountability and compliance.
- Support the formulation and implementation of operating-level agreements, decision rights and engagement protocols with internal stakeholders.
- Ensure professional and quality service standards are maintained across CPSO Office activities.
Communications and Executive Narrative
- Draft internal updates, leadership notes, stakeholder messages and executive communications for the CPSO.
- Support the development of CPSO narratives relating to PayInc’s product, scheme, market infrastructure and National Payments Utility mandate.
- Assist with preparation for conferences, client engagements, industry forums and strategic communication moments where required.
People, Culture and Team Effectiveness
- Support the CPSO leadership team in operating as an integrated portfolio.
- Help drive clarity of roles, accountabilities, decision rights and management expectations.
- Support leadership offsites, team planning sessions and portfolio alignment engagements.
- Contribute to a positive, disciplined and accountable CPSO culture.
- Provide guidance, skills transfer and support to team members involved in CPSO Office processes.
QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE
- Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in business, commerce, finance, law, technology, payments, strategy or related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualification or professional qualification would be advantageous.
- Strong understanding of business planning, governance, financial management, organisational management and executive reporting.
- Knowledge of payments, banking, financial market infrastructure, product management, scheme management or regulated financial services would be highly
advantageous.
- Strong understanding of strategy execution, business performance management, risk management and stakeholder coordination.
EXPERIENCE
- 8 to 12 years’ relevant experience in financial services, payments, banking, consulting, strategy, product, governance, business management or executiv
