Head of Accounting

We are looking for an experienced and highly detail-oriented Head of Accounting to lead accounting operations for our South African business. The ideal candidate will oversee the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting, ensure compliance with local accounting and tax requirements, and build efficient accounting processes that support business growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting, Reporting & Controls

• Oversee outsourced bookkeeping and review Financial Statements
• Prepare regular and ad hoc reports for the MD / Holding company
• Coordinate annual audit with external auditors
• Run internal controls: approval workflows, segregation of duties, fraud checks

Banking & Treasury

• Manage all banking relationships (FNB, Standard Bank, others)
• Monitor daily cash positions and control the liquidity
• Ensure cross-border payments comply with SARB exchange control rules

Tax & Regulatory Compliance

• Oversee all SA tax: VAT, PAYE/UIF/SDL, Corporate Tax, Withholding Tax
• Review returns before submission (outsourced practitioner does prep)
• Manage tax clearance (SARS TCS PIN), transfer pricing docs
• Ensure NCA/NCR compliance where applicable
• Maintain FICA/AML awareness as a financial services provider
• Handle regulatory inspections, SARS/NCR/CIPC queries, company secretarial filings

Payroll & HR Finance

• Oversee monthly payroll (in-house or outsourced)
• Ensure PAYE/UIF/SDL accuracy and IRP5/IT3 year-end reconciliation
• Handle employment contracts and compensation from a finance angle

Work location: hybrid format, remote work until the office opens
