Job description
Are you a commercially sharp mobile and telecoms leader with a passion for turning connectivity into growth? Join our Commercial team as Head of Mobile in Plattekloof or Tshwane, where you'll drive adoption of HeroMobile across the Herotel customer base and build a mobile business that grows revenue, margin and household value.
This role is perfect for a numbers driven operator who has run an MVNO or mobile commercial function end to end and wants ownership of a fast growing convergence play.
What you'll do:
- Plan and execute the cross sell of mobile into the existing Herotel fibre and connectivity base, building the conversion motion across installer, contact centre, ambassador, retail and self service channels
- Deliver agreed mobile revenue, adoption, ARPU and margin contribution targets within the approved Mobile budget, reporting performance monthly to the Chief Commercial Officer
- Design and recommend mobile tariffs, bundles and converged fibre plus mobile propositions, including the supporting margin model, for executive approval
- Manage the day to day relationship with the host network and MVNE partner, covering service levels, roadmap alignment, escalations and commercial performance
- Build and run the mobile devices proposition, including sourcing, vendor negotiation, financing models and retail distribution
- Deliver and operate self service RICA and digital onboarding, ensuring full compliance with RICA, ICASA and POPIA
- Own the ambassador and on the ground distribution channel, covering recruitment, incentive design, training and territory coverage
- Build, structure and lead the Mobile team, including recruitment, role definition and performance management
- Manage third party vendor and supplier relationships within delegated authority
- Maintain regulatory and governance compliance across ICASA licence conditions, RICA, consumer protection and POPIA, and keep a live mobile risk register
- Provide accurate mobile forecasting, reporting and data definitions into Commercial and Finance reporting cycles
What you'll need:
- Matric or National Senior Certificate
- A relevant NQF Level 6 or 7 qualification in commerce, business, marketing or engineering, or equivalent demonstrable experience in the mobile and telecoms sector
- A valid driver's licence and own transport, given the national travel requirement
- 8+ years experience in the mobile and telecoms sector, including at least 3 years in a management role with accountability for commercial delivery against budget
- Demonstrable experience in an MVNO or mobile operator environment across the commercial value chain, including product and tariff design, activation and onboarding, distribution channels and subscriber lifecycle
- A proven track record of growing an active, revenue generating subscriber base, including cross sell or base monetisation into an existing customer base
- Strong commercial and analytical capability, including pricing and margin modelling and business case development
- Working knowledge of South African telecoms regulation, including RICA, ICASA licence conditions, POPIA and consumer protection
- Experience managing third party partners and suppliers, including service level management and commercial negotiation
- Experience building or scaling a team, including recruitment, role design and target setting
- Experience owning and managing a departmental budget
- Advantageous: direct involvement in an MVNO launch from inception to go live, experience in mobile devices financing and retail distribution, experience delivering digital or self service onboarding, or experience managing a national field or ambassador sales channel
- Commercial acumen, execution discipline, cross functional influence, data led decision making, strong leadership and sound governance judgement
