We are seeking an outstanding educational leader to join our Leadership Team as Head of Student Wellbeing & Interns. This unique leadership opportunity combines two important areas of school life: championing the wellbeing of our learners and leading the development of our Internship Programme.
This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about pastoral care, leadership, mentoring and shaping a school culture where both boys and young educators flourish.

The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Headmaster, you will provide strategic leadership for learner wellbeing across the Intermediate and Senior Phases while overseeing the recruitment, induction, mentoring and development of our interns.
Working closely with staff, parents and members of the Leadership Team, you will strengthen our pastoral systems, nurture positive relationships and ensure that every intern is supported to become a confident, reflective and highly effective educator.
Alongside your leadership responsibilities, you will contribute to classroom teaching and actively participate in the sporting and co-curricular life of the school.
As a member of the Leadership Team, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the school and play an active role in strengthening a culture of care, accountability and excellence.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications and Relevant Experience
- A recognised teaching qualification.
- A minimum of seven years’ successful teaching experience, preferably within a preparatory school.
- Demonstrated experience in learner wellbeing, pastoral care or student support.
- Experience mentoring, coaching or supervising intern or student teachers.
- Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- A willingness to contribute to the school’s sport and co-curricular programme.
- A sound understanding of child safeguarding, professional boundaries, confidentiality and the
responsible handling of sensitive information.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate learner support processes and translate wellbeing priorities into
practical, consistent implementation.
- The ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents and relevant specialist professionals.
- Ability to teach Maths, English and Natural Science & Technology will be an advantage.
- A valid Police Clearance and Child Protection Clearance Certificate.
Preferred Attributes
- Postgraduate qualifications or additional training in counselling, educational leadership or learner
wellbeing.
- Experience within a school environment.
- Experience designing or leading professional learning programmes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Key Leadership Responsibilities
Student Wellbeing
- Lead initiatives that promote the emotional, social and academic wellbeing of learners.
- Strengthen pastoral care systems across the Intermediate and Senior Phases.
- Build strong partnerships with parents and external professionals where appropriate.
- Develop programmes that foster resilience, responsibility, respect and positive relationships.
- Coordinate learner support processes and ensure that appropriate interventions are implemented,
monitored and reviewed.
- Support staff in recognising, reporting and responding appropriately to learner wellbeing and
safeguarding concerns.
Intermediate & Senior Phase Internship Programme
- Lead and coordinate the school’s internship programme.
- Recruit, induct and mentor intern teachers.
- Support interns in developing effective classroom practice, professionalism and reflective teaching.
- Coordinate regular feedback, coaching and professional development opportunities.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous learning.
- Support mentor teachers in providing consistent, high-quality coaching, observation and
developmental feedback.
- Monitor intern progress against agreed professional development objectives and address
development needs timeously.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the internship programme and recommend improvements that
strengthen RBPS as an environment for developing future educators.
