Role Description The Health and Safety Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Germiston Responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety policies and procedures across scaffolding and access operations. Day-to-day tasks include conducting risk assessments, site inspections, and audits; ensuring compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation and internal standards; and overseeing incident reporting, investigation, and corrective actions. The role involves delivering safety training and toolbox talks, maintaining safety documentation, and coordinating with project managers, supervisors, and workers to promote a strong safety culture. The Health and Safety Manager will also liaise with clients and regulatory bodies on health and safety matters, support continuous improvement initiatives, and provide guidance on safe work practices and equipment use.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Health & Safety and Occupational Health, with experience applying these principles in construction, scaffolding, or industrial environments.
- Knowledge of Environment Health and Safety (EHS) frameworks and regulatory requirements relevant to South African and regional operations.
- Demonstrated ability to design and deliver effective Safety Training, including toolbox talks, induction programs, and ongoing safety awareness initiatives.
- Relevant NEBOSH or equivalent health and safety certification, with additional professional memberships or registrations considered an advantage.
- Experience conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations, and implementing practical corrective and preventive measures.
- Strong communication and reporting skills, with the ability to engage diverse site teams and promote a proactive safety culture.
- Proven ability to work on-site in a fast-paced, high-risk environment, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively with operations and project leadership.
- Diploma or degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field is preferred.
