HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER

REFERENCE NUMBER: 18 /2026

SALARY: MARKET RELATED (NEGOTIABLE)

Purpose: The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, environmental legislation, company policies, and industry standards while promoting a safe and compliant working environment.

Minimum Requirements:

National Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, Environmental Management, or related field.

SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent safety qualification will be advantageous.

SACPCMP registration as a Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO), where required by the nature of the project or client.

Minimum of 3–5 years’ relevant experience in safety, environmental, and compliance management.

Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act and environmental legislation.

Experience conducting audits, inspections, and incident investigations.

Proven experience in preparing and managing safety files for projects and site operations.

Strong report writing, communication, and organisational skills.

Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite.

Valid driver’s licence will be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and monitor Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policies and procedures.

Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.

Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits.

Prepare, compile, maintain, and update safety files in accordance with client and legislative requirements.

Ensure all contractor and subcontractor safety documentation is compliant and up to date.

Investigate incidents, accidents, and non-conformance issues and recommend corrective actions.

Coordinate environmental management initiatives and sustainability programs.

Maintain compliance registers, reports, permits, and statutory documentation.

Facilitate safety training, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns.

Monitor the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.

Liaise with regulatory authorities, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

Prepare monthly compliance and safety performance reports for management.

Support emergency preparedness and response planning.

Ensure implementation of ISO standards and best practice compliance frameworks where applicable.
