Job Advert Summary

The Health, Safety & Environmental Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring and continuously improving occupational health, safety and environmental standards across Greenway Farms / Rugani Juice. The role ensures compliance with applicable South African legislation, company policies, customer requirements and recognised management systems. The incumbent will provide practical HSE support across operational teams through risk assessments, workplace inspections, incident investigations, training, statutory compliance, environmental management and corrective action monitoring. The role works closely with Operations, Production, Packhouse, Logistics, Maintenance, Engineering and HR & Compliance to promote a safe, compliant and environmentally responsible workplace.

Minimum Requirements

• Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management/Science or a related field.
• SAMTRAC, NEBOSH or equivalent recognised HSE qualification.
• Sound knowledge of South African occupational health, safety and environmental legislation.
• Minimum 3–5 years' relevant HSE experience, preferably within food manufacturing, FMCG, agriculture, logistics or a similar operational environment.
• Experience in hazard identification, risk assessment and incident/accident investigation.
• Knowledge of HSE compliance, internal auditing and corrective/preventive action management.
• Working knowledge of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems.
• BRCGS, HACCP and GMP awareness.
• Strong report writing, documentation and Microsoft Office skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Implement, maintain and monitor HSE policies, procedures, standards and programmes.
• Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health, safety and environmental legislation and maintain relevant legal registers.
• Conduct workplace risk assessments, hazard identification, HSE inspections and compliance reviews.
• Investigate incidents, accidents, occupational injuries, near misses and vehicle-related incidents, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Monitor and report on corrective and preventive actions through to closure.
• Support ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems and internal, external, customer and certification audits.
• Monitor environmental compliance, waste management, pollution prevention and environmental improvement initiatives.
• Maintain emergency preparedness procedures and coordinate emergency drills.
• Conduct HSE inductions, toolbox talks and safety awareness training and support operational teams in promoting safe working practices.
• Coordinate Health and Safety Committee meetings and support Health and Safety Representatives.
• Monitor machinery, equipment, contractor and subcontractor safety compliance.
• Compile monthly HSE reports, dashboards, registers and compliance documentation.
• Support RTMS and transport safety compliance and participate in transport-related investigations and audits.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, auditors, contractors, service providers and other relevant stakeholders.
• Identify and implement practical HSE, environmental, RTMS and operational safety improvements.
