Job description
Medwell SA, provides comprehensive healthcare services across South Africa, specialising in home nursing, elderly care, palliative care, frail care, and assisted living solutions.
We are looking to employ a Healthcare Manager to be based at Buh-Rein Retirement Village. The sucessfull candidate will be responsible for the overall management of all healthcare services offered within the retirement village in line with the service level agreement, and for building and maintaining strong relationships with all stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Co-ordination and control of all services offered in the memory- & frailcare unit, assisted living and
- Quality control of nursing care delivered by all nursing staff working in the unit, in collaboration with the Nursing Services Manager.
- Manage, implement and/or provide Primary Healthcare clinic services.
- Manage, co-ordinate and arrange services in Assisted living inclusive of Personal Care services in the Estate.
- Annual assessments of residents in clinic and at home (only on exception, where required due to mobility impairment).
- Perform clinical assessments and health screen reviews of prospective care unit and village residents.
- On stand-by to provide telephonic guidance/advice to Registered Nurses on shift as and when required.
- Manage and supervise the managed home based care services in collaboration with the Registered Nurse thereto appointed.
- Manage and/or supervise clinical information on software database for care unit, assisted living units and village.
- Prepare and present monthly reports and statistis.
- Pro-actively manage staffing levels when occupancy is low in order to minimise the financial risk.
- Management and performance evaluation of all staff working in the care unit in collaboration with the Human Resources department and Nursing Services Manager.
- Manage and responsible for health and safety compliance as per company policies and OHS Act, including all responsibilities thereto attached.
- Control over the procurement and use of medication, medical supplies, and stock.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree-qualified Registered Nurse.
- An additional qualification in Business Administration will be advantageous.
- A minimum of five years' experience in a managerial position within the healthcare industry.
- Experience in the management of a memory care and frail care facility (experience in the home-care industry will be beneficial).
- Knowledge and experience in implementing and ensuring a person-centred care approach to provide a homely environment for persons living with dementia.
- Experience with the requirements of the Older Persons Act (Act 13 of 2006), as well as the ability to ensure compliance with the Mental Health Care Act and all relevant requirements applicable to a facility registered in terms of the Act.
- Knowledge of and practical experience in applying the professional requirements and procedures as stipulated in the Scope of Practice of the South African Nursing Council.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to exercise appropriate authority while maintaining open communication and an approachable management style.
- Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with residents, families, healthcare professionals, and staff.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality, resident-centred care and promoting a culture of dignity, respect, accountability, and continuous improvement.
WORKING HOURS
Mondays to Fridays 07:00 to 16:00 (should be willing to start earlier/work later to meet/evaluate night shift staff from time to time)
