Heavy-Duty Vehicle Aircon Technician

City Sightseeing, based in Paarden Eiland, Cape Town, has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Heavy-Duty Vehicle Aircon Technician to join our workshop team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, fault-finding and repair of air-conditioning systems on our buses and other fleet vehicles. The role requires strong practical and diagnostic skills, with the ability to identify and resolve faults efficiently and ensure our vehicles remain operational and fit for service.

Auto-electrical experience will be advantageous, particularly experience with electrical fault-finding and repairs in a heavy-duty vehicle environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Inspect, service and maintain air-conditioning units fitted to buses and other fleet vehicles.
• Conduct routine preventative maintenance and identify potential faults before they result in vehicle downtime.
• Diagnose and rectify air-conditioning faults, including blocked dryers and leaking pipes.
• Fault-find and repair air-conditioning compressors and associated components.
• Perform electrical fault-finding and repairs on air-conditioning systems and related electrical components.
• Vacuum air-conditioning systems, change compressor oil and charge systems with refrigerant as required.
• Test air-conditioning systems following servicing or repairs to ensure correct operation.
• Read and interpret relevant wiring diagrams and technical information.
• Use appropriate diagnostic and testing equipment to identify and resolve faults.
• Complete job cards and accurately record maintenance and repair work performed.
• Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a safe and orderly condition.
• Carry out all work in accordance with maintenance procedures, manufacturer specifications and applicable safety standards.
• Assist with general workshop and technical duties where required.
• Work collaboratively with the workshop and operations teams to minimise vehicle downtime.

Requirements & Experience

• Matric (Grade 12) or relevant technical qualification.
• Recognised Air-conditioning trade qualification or relevant technical certification.
• Minimum 4 years' experience as an Aircon Technician, preferably within a heavy-duty vehicle, bus, commercial vehicle or transport environment.
• Proven practical experience working on vehicle air-conditioning systems.
• Strong technical, diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience using relevant diagnostic and testing equipment.
• Computer literacy
• Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver's licence.

Advantageous

• Experience working specifically on bus or heavy-duty vehicle air-conditioning systems.
• Auto-electrical experience, particularly electrical fault-finding and repairs.
• Knowledge of CAN bus systems.
• Experience in bus body maintenance or general heavy-duty vehicle maintenance.

Operational Requirements

The successful candidate must be:

• Willing and able to work shifts according to the operational roster.
• Willing and able to perform standby duty as rostered.
• Willing and able to work weekends and public holidays as rostered.
• Flexible to respond to operational requirements and vehicle breakdowns when required.
• Able to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced operational environment.

Pay: R20 000,00 - R30 000,00 per month

Experience:

• Aircon Technician: 4 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

• Air-conditioning trade qualification/relevant certification (Required)
