Job description
Job Advert Summary
There is something rather wonderful about a great Mathematics teacher.
They do more than teach students how to arrive at the right answer. They help them see patterns, think clearly, wrestle productively with complexity and discover that something which once seemed impossible can, in fact, be understood.
We are looking for an experienced and accomplished Senior Mathematics Teacher to join our High School Mathematics team from January 2027.
This is an opportunity for an educator who knows the subject deeply, enjoys teaching it, and can bring both intellectual rigour and humanity into the classroom. Someone who understands the particular demands of senior Mathematics, while recognising that excellent results are most sustainably achieved when students develop strong conceptual foundations, confidence and genuine mathematical thinking.
The successful candidate will be an experienced Grade 12 Mathematics educator who is able to teach with clarity, depth and purpose, while adapting their approach to meet the needs of different students.
Minimum Requirements
What you will bring
You will ideally be someone who:
- Holds a BSc degree with Mathematics to at least second-year level;
- Has a minimum of six years' experience teaching Mathematics at Matric/Grade 12 level;
- Has experience teaching within the IEB curriculum, which would be advantageous;
- Has excellent subject knowledge and can communicate complex mathematical concepts clearly and confidently;
- Understands how to develop conceptual understanding rather than relying solely on procedural learning;
- Plans progressively and deliberately, building knowledge and competence over time;
- Uses differentiated teaching strategies to support, challenge and extend learners appropriately;
- Has strong experience in assessment, examination preparation and effective revision methodologies;
- Has a demonstrated record of achieving consistent and measurable academic outcomes;
- Communicates effectively and sensitively with students and parents/guardians;
- Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a Mathematics department and broader academic team;
- Is organised, resilient and dependable, with a strong work ethic;
- Brings sound professional judgement, discretion and high ethical standards to their work; and
- Understands and actively supports the importance of student wellbeing and safeguarding.
How to Apply
Qualified, interested candidates are required to upload:
- A detailed CV which includes a brief covering letter and current contact details of three referees
- A copy of ID
- Qualifications
- SACE Certificate
- Answer the screening questions via our online application portal
Failure to meet the minimum requirements will result in disqualification. Only short-listed candidates will be contacted for further discussions.
Duties and Responsibilities
More than Mathematics
While subject expertise matters enormously, we are equally interested in how you teach and how students experience you.
We are looking for someone who can hold high expectations without creating unnecessary fear or pressure; who knows when to stretch a student and when to slow down and rebuild a foundation; and who understands that young people learn best when they feel both challenged and capable.
You will be joining a professional community in which collaboration matters. We therefore value educators who generously share ideas and expertise, remain curious about their own practice, contribute to the broader life of the School and recognise that excellent teaching is rarely a solo performance.
If you are an experienced Mathematics educator who loves the subject, enjoys working with young people and believes that rigour and encouragement can comfortably occupy the same classroom, we would love to hear from you.
