High Site Technician

Location: Vredenburg, Western Cape (West Coast)
Company: DK Connect

About the Role

DK Connect is looking for an experienced High Site Technician to join our growing technical team. This role is focused on maintaining, upgrading, and troubleshooting our wireless network infrastructure across the West Coast.

This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for someone who is technically strong, self-motivated, and capable of working independently while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot high-site infrastructure.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on towers, masts, and equipment shelters.
  • Install and maintain DC and AC power systems.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot solar power systems, charge controllers, batteries, and inverters.
  • Diagnose and repair power-related faults on remote sites.
  • Install, align, and commission wireless backhaul links.
  • Configure and troubleshoot MikroTik routers and switches.
  • Configure and maintain Ubiquiti, Mimosa, Cambium, and Aviat wireless equipment.
  • Install structured cabling, fibre, and PoE equipment.
  • Monitor site health and proactively identify potential failures.
  • Respond to network outages and emergency call-outs.
  • Complete detailed maintenance reports and documentation.
  • Ensure all work complies with company standards and safety procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years' experience working on telecommunications high sites or similar infrastructure.
  • Solid understanding of:
  • DC power systems
  • AC electrical systems
  • Solar installations
  • Battery technologies (Lead Acid and Lithium)
  • UPS systems
  • Inverters and charge controllers
  • Strong networking knowledge.
  • Experience with:
  • MikroTik RouterOS
  • Ubiquiti
  • Mimosa
  • Cambium Networks
  • Aviat Networks
  • Experience with wireless backhaul alignment and optimisation.
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP networking.
  • Ability to read technical diagrams and network documentation.
  • Comfortable using diagnostic and testing equipment.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Comfortable working at heights.
  • Physically fit and able to carry equipment to remote sites.

  • Is reliable, punctual, and professional.
  • Is willing to work after hours and be part of an on-call rotation when required.
  • Communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Always prioritises safety.

Advantageous Skills

  • Tower climbing certification.
  • Working at Heights certification.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Fibre splicing experience.
  • Generator maintenance experience.
  • RF planning or link design experience.
  • Experience with network monitoring systems.
