Housekeeper (seasonal contract) | Birkenhead House

The Housekeeping team at Birkenhead House is integral to ensuring that as a property, we can live up to The Royal Portfolio's purpose, which is "To give our guests a complete experience and a perfect stay" .

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Attend daily handovers and follow instructions from the Housekeeping Manager.
• Ensure all public areas (floors, windows, furniture, fixtures) are cleaned and maintained to a consistently high standard.
• Prepare, clean, and stock guest rooms (arrivals, stay-overs, and turn-down) in line with standard operating procedures, ensuring 100% presentation quality.
• Manage guest laundry collection and return promptly and accurately.
• Monitor and report maintenance issues in both public areas and guest rooms without delay.
• Handle all stock, amenities, and linen responsibly, minimizing waste and ensuring adequate supply.
• Proactively identify and address any cleanliness or presentation issues on sight immediately.
• Collaborate with colleagues as part of a team, supporting shared housekeeping and laundry standards across the property.
• Maintain a professional appearance and the highest standards of personal hygiene at all times.
• Uphold the hotel's Purpose and Value Statement and standard operating procedures in all aspects of work, leading by example.

REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

• Matric certificate
• 2+ years experience in Housekeeping in a luxury hotel environment
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to read, write and converse well in English
• Well presented, professional, with high energy levels
• Punctual, reliable, mature, pro-active
• Team player with a positive attitude
• Ability to work shifts, weekends and public holidays
• Preference will be given to candidates currently living in Hermanus, or the surrounding areas

It is important that the candidate is able to work as part of a team and is a good cultural fit for The Royal Portfolio.

South African citizenship is advantageous. A valid work permit is essential if you are not in possession of a South African ID document.
